Silly question / suggestion

Looking at this picture I stole from Nanda:

It looks to me like there is absolutely nothing to keep a person from putting the lever end of the QR in from the drive side, except tradition, of course. But, done this way, it would certainly make it easier to remove the wheel, you wouldn't have to completely remove the skewer, just pull it enough for the wheel to drop out, then slide it back in.

Or am I missing something?

The QR installs from the right side just fine. That way you can leave it part the way in to retain the derailleur hanger. and it looks very nice because of the way it lines up nicely with the dropout.

That's what I'm talking about! Yeah, that looks good and more stuff for roadies to make fun of us about, but who cares?
