Don't know about Rohloff, but I mounted a generic fixie-type spring-loaded tensioner on my Silvio by drilling & threading a 10mm hole in one of the dropouts in a position similar to where they are on a "normal" (HEH) bike. It has worked great for a couple years with a Shimano Nexus 8 speed...
Thanks Slim. I don't know about the timing vs the Qring. As you probably know, the BioPace is not very adjustable, since you only have 5, or maybe 10, ways to bolt it to the crank, many of which are probably irrelevant. In any event, I simply followed the BioPace instructions regarding where the...
Hi Fred & Eric. Sorry about the radio silence. I haven't been by the Forum in a coons age.
Fred, I share your aversion to chain. This also motivated my desire for the geared hub and Gates belt. I installed the Shimano Nexus 8 hub as described in thread referenced above by Eric (thanks Eric)...
FWIW I installed a Nexus 8 speed IGH in a Silvio
FWIW I installed a Nexus 8 speed IGH in a Silvio (v 1.5?) bought ~26 mos ago.
I ground the Nexus 8 "lock nut for left hand cone" down to reduce its thickness. This reduced the assembled width of the hub to ~133 cm. I also modified the...
front shock problem
My 2012 Silvio front shock is exhibiting behavior very similar to what John describes here.
It holds air pressure just fine. But it collapses after a few bumps, and does not seem to absorb bumps for the rest of the ride. It returns to full extension when I get off of...
What you say sounds right.
So
What you say sounds right.
So the only issue with extension might be when you pump it up for a pack, at which point the extension when unloaded will be more. But if that is a small part of your total riding maybe it's not a problem to worry about.
These...
some semi-baked thoughts
I got one of these things to play with. Way cool! Here are some semi-baked thoughts...
I can see that it will give more travel (which is what I want) and will certainly flex the spring through a greater range. But this has got to happen when/if I achieve a softer...
ooh duh
ooh duh, just discovered I need to be searching for W02-358-3008 instead of 2M2A.
At ~$40 this has got to be the lowest cost bike suspension known to man... e.g., my son was just talking about the $800 shock he has on his mountain bike... my dad ran these air ride bogey axles on...
Beautiful!
Beautiful! I have often wanted to improve on the rear bumper and this looks like the ticket.
Could you please cite a source of supply and cost?
I'm having problems answering my questions from your drawing. Could you please write a few sentences describing the details...
You might want to try the Crank Bros Candy 1
FWIW, I experimented with various Shimano SPD pedals and ended up feeling like the clip force was overkill. So I went with Crank Brothers Candy 1 Mountain Bike Pedals. I have used the Candy 1's this summer with Keen Men's Commuter III Cycling Shoes...
Awsome! Brilliant!
Hi John,
The new design is awesome!
You have addressed the two things I want most ...
... a stiffer frame at the headset
... a more compliant rear suspension
I use the the Silvio headrest intermittently. Fitting it stock with the lower seat angle is...
135mm hubs seem doable based on my experience
I was pleasantly surprised at how stiff the silvio fork is. If, as John says ...
> the fork profile is identical to current model Silvio and Vendetta
... then my experience of fitting the Nexus 8 gearned hub (132mm over-nut width) into...
Update... 5 months in
I have been riding this setup now for 5 months. I still like it for all the reasons stated earlier.
My interest in belt drive has waned, since the straight chain drive is working so well for me.
I may still make the custom dropouts, because it would be nice to...
You might want to try
You might want to try rotating the bars so that the ends are more vertical. That will also move them fruther away from you.
That is how the stock bars that came with my 2012 Silivio ended up after I kept moving them until I was happy.
My bars basically pass...
