    My journey to a V20

The Vendetta is a great platform for destroying egos. You're gonna love it.

    Prior Bachetta owners?

Bacchettas are the recumbent of choice in my neck of the woods. They were all slower than my me-powered Sofrider V1 uphill and they were all faster downhill. The me-powered Vendetta 1.5 left the raciest local Bacchetta CA 2.0 on carbon wheels any time I wanted, uphill, downhill, flat: Did not...

6-12-24 World TT Championships, Report from Borrego Springs: brief

The V18 adapters look awesome. Sign me up for a pair, please. Why? My Sofrider V1 with the 18 degree seat on it is faster than my Vendetta, on the flat road. Aero is king.

    Homebuilder selling up

Yes, Captain Dan! Also, the video he made showed lots of pedal steer. More time on the bike he made may have helped; a more road bike style handlebar would also have helped. Those sweet-looking hamster bars were probably not very effective on his FWD MBB home brew. You know, isolating the bike...

What did you do to your Cruzbike today?

My personal best speeds happen in the cold months. The air is denser, but the winter wear is more aerodynamic. You know, full finger gloves, arm and leg warmers and my warmest helmet. Why not try a full-face helmet? My cheap BMX helmet is the fastest, most aero thing I wear on my head. It's...

    QX 100 rear shock upgrade

For my suspension/no suspension experiments, I used a 1" hardwood dowel in place of the rear damper. This was surprisingly durable! Naturally, I checked it before every ride and after every ride, since the holes for the mounting bolts were just raw holes drilled through the dowel... but it held...

    QX100 early review

My new Sofrider was on the road less than a year when I finally figured out why I was going so slow. The spokes in the front wheel were so loose -yet strangely quiet- I could watch the wheel flex and flop in time with the pedals! In the old days, I used to true and tune every moped wheel that...

    Automatic shifting

My preference is for manual friction shifters. The infinite fine tuning is useful. But what I use in the real world is index shifting. The very quick and sure shifts are perfect for speeding up hills. Automatics have always appealed to me as much as they do to Hoyden (not much).

What did you do to your Cruzbike today?

The new tires for the Sofrider arrived yesterday, so I dismounted the worn out front tire with a struggle. I guess the heat and stress from training hard for miles hardened the rubber? Whatever, it needed tire irons and time. Also, the inner tube was stuck inside the tire. I needed to reuse it...

Climbing and bb height, low gears

Most of my experience with Cruzbike bikes was on my Sofrider. The Sofrider (discontinued) I have has slick 650 tires, had an 11-36 cassette, has triple chainrings and front and rear suspension. I've lost traction in loose sand, gravel and the worst was a slick patch of wet clay with algae that...

A very interesting CYCLIST article about climbing

Yeah, the quickest way to pedal uphill on the V, for me, is fully reclined, standing on the pedals, pushing hard and dancing in time with the frame -the frame cancels any pedal steer or, put another way, transforms any pedal steer into useful power. I also sit up to see better at...

Climbing and bb height, low gears

Mr. Petrov, Your question about power strokes and how they effect uphill traction is interesting. The biggest factor in your question is where the power is delivered: Front or rear wheel. Bottom bracket height has much more to do with personal preference and aerodynamics than it does with power...

    Riding the hoods

My bars are modeled on the first Vendetta for two reasons: 1.) The most important reason is comfort... for whatever reason, for me, holding the hoods with the arms straight feels awesome. I experimented for months, off and on, to settle on what works for me. 2.) Like the Great and Good Ratz...

V20's are scary fast...or so I've been told

Truthfully, the V soaks up my wimpy power and converts it into enough speed -so that there's only enough time and breath left for one word, either "WHAT?" Or a sort of all-purpose, "HEY!" The Alien squeeze-toy horn announces my passing presence. It makes a happy, inoffensive squeaky toy sound.
