    Silvio ready to roll

One further option is Sugino makes their XD2 cranks in 152mm length. These are square taper with 110/74mm 5-bolt BCD. I'm not sure where you can buy just the cranks, but you can get a crankset with 8 speed Al-alloy 24/36/50 chainrings for about $120. Easiest place to find them is on Amazon...

    Large or standard ?

Congrats! Some people just hop on and ride, it seems a majority need a nontrivial amount of practice, and a few never manage to ride. You look pretty comfortable.

That mountain bike looks so out of place.

HPV Fun Day at Hellyer Velodrome

According to Wikipedia, there are two tracks, one with 30 degree banking and another with 10 degree baking. From Google maps satellite data I can see that one is inside the other, but I can only guess that the smaller track has the steeper banking.

Spring Time - Learning To Ride Time

Surely that's a low bar, you can do 20 miles with 1400 feet of climbing at least 3 mph, right? Oh wait, that's 1/10 in every dimension. Hmm... cube root of 10 = 2.15. So 93 miles with 6500 feet of climbing at an average speed of 14 mph. Oh, I don't think I can do that, so I'm not even 1/10 as...

HPV Fun Day at Hellyer Velodrome

Looks like you have a Silvio S30. I'd love to take a bike out to a velodrome.

Enjoy the Extra day U.S. riders.

Well, that's a little disturbing, I hope it was just something transient.

Spring Time - Learning To Ride Time

Good distinction. Rick's point about climbs though is another case. On grades over about 10% I have trouble keeping straight, little higher, probably around 12% I simply have to get off and walk.

Spring Time - Learning To Ride Time

Riding very slowly in a straight line, I do that all the time, instead of coming to a stop behind a car at a red light or stop sign, I slow way down and a good chunk of the time the light turns green before I need to stop. Another time is when I pass between bollards (moderately common in...

Conversion kit bike -- $200 -- Atlanta area, GA

$200?!? A steal. Looks like the donor bike is a Specialized Hotrock 20 (20" wheels), so this is a setup for smaller people.

Spring Time - Learning To Ride Time

What I found was that I had a much harder time controlling the amount of force I was applying when pulling than pushing on the handlebars. I guess that's true for most, hence the advice to start out open palms on the handlebar grips. Of course you can do both, pulling and pushing, to get...

    2016 Calvin's Challenge video

I think that was VIRB Edit, which Garmin gives away to VIRB owners (an action camera). It takes video and track data (GPS, sensors, there's a couple of "standard" file formats which a lot of bike computers, GPS watches, etc output). GoPro recently bought DashWare which has similar software, the...

    Front suspension

There are a lot of dirt roads near me, and I'm sure the suspension helps a lot on them, though I do tend to avoid them. But on a recent ride, it was either take the relatively flat dirt road or take a rather steep set of hills on the main road. It's a bit hard to take pictures of the brackets...

    Front suspension

The Conversion Kit was discontinued last year. You might inquire if CruzBike has any brackets as spare parts but they're somewhat Conversion Kit-specific, it sounds like you have a bike from some other manufacturer or a home-built bike. If the latter, you might try to fabricate your own, and...

    Front suspension

The CruzBike Conversion Kit is designed for a bike with a front fork with 100mm dropuot width and a rear axle with 135mm width between the locknuts. To do this, a pair of brackets connect the front fork and then bend outwards to where the former rear wheel (with cassette) is mounted. It doesn't...

Diet: Low Carb and Ultra Cycling

Would it be an interesting idea or a bad idea to bring a small squeeze bottle of MCT oil for energy on a ride, sort of in place of a maltodextrin-based energy gel? Can your body absorb/digest it while cycling?

Speed Sensor - going Wire and Magnet Less

DC Rainmaker's mini (for him) review of the new Garmin acceleraometer-based speed and cadence sensors Short: they work, though they've got a bit more noise in the measurements than the magnet-based sensors.
