    Tacoma?

Welcome @Robert C ! Tag me here anytime, or send a PM (private message, also called"conversation" in the menus). I live in NE Seattle. I ride a Q45, rode a Quest 559 before that. Most of my riding is commuting (pre-pandemic). If you want to ride in the rain like I do, there are a few homemade...

    Balance and Speed

If you soil your pants, it's speed wobble. Otherwise, probably not. You'll know it when you feel it, and I hope you don't. (YouTube will show you videos). What you're talking about, I think, is a CB-specific kind of wobble, due I think to the heavy front end that wants to fall into a turn...

    Balance and Speed

Ride 0 mph and fall directly over. It's hard to balance at low speed on any bike because you don't have the ability to correct by steering to put the wheels under the lean, and the amount of steering required increases at low speed. Very slight steering adjustments work at high speed but aren't...

    Balance and Speed

Yup, as @LarryOz said, it's not nothing, but when you take into account the weight and forces on the whole bike-plus-rider system, it's relatively small. Consider the forces when you lean into a turn. How hard would it be to stand next to a (stationary) rider leaning over that much and hold...

    Balance and Speed

Certainly glad you're enjoying the bike.... but spinning wheels contribute almost nothing to stability. Any 4-year-old can easily balance one of those little scooters with 2-inch wheels. My guess is that you're just getting more skill and more confidence, which is indeed to be celebrated. It's...

Wipeout Wound: Healing Lost Skin, Road Rash

Me neither! After a decade on traditional recumbents, I went looking for one with full size wheels, not too low, disk brakes, and rear suspension (in that order). I saw the Quest v2 which had all that, and just thought "I've been riding all kinds of bikes forever, including unicycles. FWD can't...

Wipeout Wound: Healing Lost Skin, Road Rash

I could stay upright on my Q (older version) right away, could ride bike trails and quiet streets, but was at least 3 months of daily commuting before I felt truly comfortable in city traffic. Yeah, the death grip is an important sign. That was me at first. Try loosening your grip little by...

Cable Actuated Disc brake caliper set up process

I used @benphyr 's business card (match book) method when I had one-side-adjust brakes and now use @cpml123 's method with TRP Spyres! Absolutely! You can do a similar thing with the cable tension twist adjuster if it has enough thread.

    Creaking in my Front End...

I seem to remember someone saying this, but they should be mentioned again, if only because they're about the easiest thing to check. Also note that the click of a loose spoke can be transmitted through the frame and heard/felt throughout the entire bike. Even if you're sure it's the front...

    qx100: 800lbs/inch spring sufficient?

I think all the older Qs had 125mm shocks. At least my Quest2-559 did. But with the many many comments on this forum raving about the Kind air shocks, which are also pretty cheap, why consider anything else? Proven durable, quite adjustable, stiffen the frame nicely, extremely light, ...

    Cracked tube... Solutions?

Hey guys, you're making too big a deal out of this. That thing has been hanging on the wall of my pretty small bike garage for 6 years (I looked at some records and it was actually 2015). It's pretty obvious I'm not going to do anything with it. Getting it to someone who has use for it is win...

    Cracked tube... Solutions?

I have one of those and would be happy to give it to you. This is from a Quest 2 that I upgraded with the beefier tube of the Q100. It's been sitting around in my bike garage since maybe 2013. You are welcome to it. Where are you? (PM me).

V2 vs V20 - what are the differences?

@Lief nice to hear from you! I'm vaccinated. Does that mean I can ride it without a mask? Yeah, I should know what a V feels like. How about another Seattle group ride one of these days?

V2 vs V20 - what are the differences?

Ignorant question from a guy with 10s of k miles on Qs but who's never ridden a V anything: Does the horizontal boom sticking a foot or so back into the rider's lap mean it steers like a tiller? Namely is the steering motion side to side or is it a rotating motion like a DF or my Q? And if...

    Shipping questions

Can't advise about the box, but can tell you that an expandable foam product called Instapak protected an S40 from Seattle to Nairobi perfectly, in an ordinary cardboard box (original box from cruzbike). Instapak are small bags with two chemicals that mix and expand in a minute or so, molding...

Waxing how long does it last.

Hey! This is a thread about waxing CHAINS, not hair!

Waxing how long does it last.

I've been reading these waxing threads for years now and would really like to be done with nasty greasy chains ... cassette ... derailleur. But my problem is that I'm a year-round commuter in Seattle. Even with my fairing the chain often gets wet. I'd like to hear from someone in a similar...

    Osymetric chain rings

There's been much discussion of oval rings on this forum. Right, per @Don1 above, the positioning is different than it would be on an upright. Try searching for posts some years back by John Tolhurst (legendary inventor of the cruzbike) on how to find the correct position.

Results of installing a Viscoset headset in an S40

Possibly, but I'll bet you can learn without it. Take your time. Try the loosest possible grip. Gradually feel the steering control you get with your feet. Take your time. When you're on a nice straight stretch (no traffic), just try loosening your grip every now and then. Get the feel...

    USS cruzbike

I'm always glad to see people innovating with bicycles, but ... Doesn't this lose the advantage of using the upper body that is characteristic of Cruzbikes? Namely, pulling on those wide (bendy?) bars with their multiple-joint connection to the BB seems inefficient at best.
