    Upgrading gears

I think the 52/39 will still serve you well - you won't spin out nearly as quickly...

    Upgrading gears

Hey there, good to see ya again. 52/39 should be fine with 26" wheels. The Sofrider V2 uses a 53/39 as I remember. You'll want 8 or 9 speed for the rear, 11/32 or 11/34 cassettes work well and are easily found. Remember you'll need to change your shifters.

    7-day Silvio ride

Hi Jim, I like the beard :D Excellent reports from the road. These are incredible bikes. Anything that gets the BROl'ers going, especially when the word "hype" gets elicited, is great stuff. Can you describe the differences on this ride from last year's, where you rode a Sofrider V-1...

    Project Luge

Okay, here's some details. Probably this will slide into winter, but I will use it to develop the instructions for the Freerider Handlbar Kit when it's used with conversion kit components, which is why it's mocked up right now. The motivation was to build something that could be taken apart and...

Bike shop having trouble. Need parts suggestions!

Neither one will work for you. I am increasingly dissapointed with the online help at Nashbar and Performance (the are the same company.) The bottom bracket they recommended is an "ISIS" type,; you will have to replace your crankset to use it , because I'm positive your crankset is square-taper...

Bike shop having trouble. Need parts suggestions!

Most shops only supply the "screws-in" type. The type that came with your bike is generally OEM-only. If you have any doubts, just e-mail me with what you intend to buy and I'll check it for you. Best of luck,

Bike shop having trouble. Need parts suggestions!

With an old Pacific MTB, all of this is quite possible. None of it is a show stopper. You need an English thread bottom bracket, 68mm, with a 115 to 118mm axle...

Survived the virgin ride; it was scary fun!

Hi John, I've encountered most of the this you're describing. The "top heavy" feeling will dissipate as your body learns the relationship between bike lean rate and steering correction on the bike. This is something our bodies learn for all recumbents, as it's different for every "chassis" and...

    Front Disk

Me Likey... The rear will be a challenge - the bend in the middle of the dropout will make the adapter block kinda trickey... Sean, I think the V2 rear mount would be a lot easier, but still not a bolt-on. The front is a direct bolt-on.
