    first S40 ride today

Christmas day commuted to work for the first time on the s40. I'm not as one with the bike as i want to be yet but getting there. The ease at which this bike can be rigged to carry bags without throwing off the balance is fairly amazing, so both packing up and riding to work under load were a...

    first S40 ride today

I agree they work well. I'm using a soft but not overly plush camping sleep pad inside the black mesh that was over their foam. Its cut a bit wider and it's not as compressable, which i prefer.

    first S40 ride today

I went for my first real ride this morning, 20 miles of city riding. I've figured out how to start from a dead stop, but a few of the 13 stop lights i got nervous with the incline or the traffic and just jumped off and jogged across crosswalks. I've been riding DF bikes with a thudbuster for...

    first S40 ride today

The bars are Nitto Albastache sold by Rivendale Bikes. They were on my Surly Crosscheck that i dismantled to build the S40. I moved them with knee clearance in mind. It's working pretty well, when I'm riding my kness aren't quite in the dead center of the bars, but I'm thinking when i get a new...

    first S40 ride today

Second ride today I only had time for about 30 minutes around the neighborhood again. I did switch to clipless, i considered that it might be to soon but doing so made me more comfortable in general and immediately improved my handling of the bike. Tommorrow I'm headed to the local high school...

    first S40 ride today

I finished the preliminary build of my S40 today and rode it for the first time. My only previous experience with a Cruzbike was a test ride with a S30 a few months ago. I rode around the neighborhood on the S40 for about 20 minutes. My initial impression of the bike after this first ride is...

    A couple of build questions

Hello, I'm progressing with the build of my S40 and want to double check a few things. I've read the post about figuring boom length and that it's good to have the handlebars forward for better control for beginners. I've set up the bike with short cranks and tried peddling (with out the...

Anyone run tubeless tires on converted rims?

After some research on the internet about tubeless being really good for not getting flats i bought some tubeless tires ,Schwalbe Evolution and converted my rims. Today i went to the LBS to use their compresser to set the tire, which worked fine. But the mechanic put the fear of God in me...

How best to determine crank length?

Thanks for all the input. My reasons for going to shorter cranks 1. The general consensus that it better for recumbent/CB 2. Learning that it's better for your knees, less bending of them anyway ( my knees are starting down the path of no return) 3. The clearance gained at the handle bars...

How best to determine crank length?

Today i spoke with Mark the Bikesmith. He says my cranks can be shorted to whatever length i want from153 to 80 mm The question is what would be the best length for me? I've been running 48/38chainrings on the Surly and have added a third ring at 30 to this for the S40. Today i sourced at a...

    greetings and advice

So it turns out that the biggest issue with the front brake not clearing the fork was my own lack of experience . The reason i needed 4 washers to clear the forks was because i didn't turn the pads to fit the rim. With the pads set correctly to the rim I only needed three washers which in turn...

    greetings and advice

Mathew Fry, Thanks for the link. I read through it a long way and it seems the clearance issue I'm having is fairly common, good to know it wasn't kust me. Telphd, I will check to see if my LBS can increase the center bolt length of the brake which seems the best way to fix the issue...

    greetings and advice

Hello and greetings, I'm new to Cruzbike having recently bought a S40 frame set, it will be my first recumbent. I have been reading the forum and learning quite a bit about cruzbikes and bike building in general. This my first attempt to build up a frame-set. I'm sourcing as many of the parts...
