    Getting Off the Fence

Had a couple of breaks in the weather.... Session 1: "Flintstone" starts, circles in driveway (both directions) only 1 crash. Session 2: "Real" starts, circles in driveway. Discovered that when I was about to lose it, I could stop pedaling and steer may way out. Session 3: "Real" starts...

    Smaller chainrings for S40

On my road bike, I swapped out the 50/34 for 48/33. It does not sound like much, but it did help on the hills. This is just a simple and relatively cheap chain ring swap. To the best of my knowledge, 33 is the smallest that will fit on compact crank sets, and TA is the only company I could...

A few more tweaks, and I will be ready to hit the road.

    Getting Off the Fence

Got everything adjusted and both FD and RD seem to shift smoothly. Unfortunately, when finishing up, discovered that the flange that the "B" tension bolt passes through interferes with the RD hanger. Guess I will need take everything apart and do a little grinding. Good tire changing...

    Getting Off the Fence

More good news! The WickWerks Fit Link works! In the full up position, I have just slightly less than 3mm clearance between the FD cage and the large chain ring, which puts the FD in spec. From this experience, I would say that if using a chain ring larger than 46T, the Fit Link will NOT...

External "B" junction. Nice of CruzBike to provide a great mounting place. They even provided a bolt.

    Getting Off the Fence

Good news! I read somewhere on the internet (probably this forum) that Mavic wheels with 9/10 speed cassettes are mounted with spacers so that they are 11 speed compatible. Guess what? Mine are. So now that I have the 11 speed cassette mounted, I have wheels for my new ride. I finished the...

What is inside - two wires, no shielding.

    Getting Off the Fence

I just could not bring myself to drill a big hole in the chain stay end near the forks. So I came up with a new plan, cutting and splicing a cable (yes, that is supposed to be a n0 - n0) so that I can use a smaller hole. I did not have any problems putting a larger hole at the crank end of the...

    Getting Off the Fence

Opened the large box form Cruzbike. Found lots of pretty parts. Everything was well padded and wrapped. No dents, dings or scratches. The frame is assembled, hand tight, with the FD, RD, display and shifters mounted. Getting the display changed much of how I had planned to run the wires...

    Getting Off the Fence

Cool! Keep us posted. I was considering Rolhoff and NuVinci, but decided on Di2. Very interested on hearing reports. How difficult is it to remove/replace the front wheel?

    Getting Off the Fence

Ahhh! But can you do it one handed like Di2 in synchro mode?

    Getting Off the Fence

It is all working. I have it in synchro mode, where it will automatically shift both the FD and the RD based on pre-programmed shift points. Now it is time to set the Di2 system aside and investigate what is in the boxes Cruzbike sent.

    Getting Off the Fence

The Di2 stuff came from eurobikeparts.com in a single box. The Shimano equipment was packed in cute little designer packages, except for the RD, which arrived in a plastic bag wrapped in the directions as padding. Go figure.

    Getting Off the Fence

Wow! No kidding. I had not planned to get a Di2 MT800, it was basically an impulse purchase as I was ordering the Di2 system. It seemed to be a much better method of checking battery status, and I really liked the ability to display what gear I am in. Of course, getting it about half off...
