    Hands-free

Finally got the hands-free working today going up some slight uphill streets. Was able to go hands-free for about 100m, then take a left turn still hands-free, then go another 100m before the grade became too steep. Slight uphill is WAY easier than level ground or downhill. Why is that? -Cliff

    Hands-free

I've been trying to ride my S30 hands-free lately with limited success. Best case so far is 4 pedal rotations. I can coast for a a while by hugging the frame with my legs. Any tips on how to ride the S30 hands-free? Lifting my legs seems to help a little. -Cliff

Crank Brothers Eggbeaters vs Speedplay Pedals

I started with SPDs, then switched to Speedplay ULAs for knee reasons. ULAs are super easy to get in and out of. Getting out easy is important for my city commutes. I've tried to pull out of them, but have never been able to do so. Maybe sprinters with tree-trunk legs can. The free float is nice...

Your Max Speed on a Cruzbike

Either 49.2 mph or 47.0 mph depending on which Strava statistic you believe. Did it on my S30 on Bear Creek Road westbound descending past the pump house during the GPC (metric) Century. Caught up to a slug of bikes riding in the lane in pairs. Didn't want to pass by crossing the yellow line...

has anyone tried bars like this?

Slim, I'm concerned that a chain stay extension will reduce traction on the steep hills I frequently encounter in Northern California. Hoyden, the bars are Sunlite Pro Cruz: https://www.amazon.com/Sunlite-Oversize-Cruiser-Handlebars-31-8/dp/B016QRNQW4 I also have SRAM double-tap brifters. And...

has anyone tried bars like this?

Ratz, can you point me to a picture of Hardy's bars? I can't find them on the forum. How would you recommend cutting the fork stem down? There are a couple spacers below the pivot clamp. Should I move them to the top of the pivot clamp? I agree that the curved slider would help. Need to get...

has anyone tried bars like this?

The stock bars on my Silvio need to go. They are too high, and are cueing me to pull/hang on them, which is causing soreness that will likely turn into serious tendonitis if not corrected. I've attached a side view of how they look. I've read the forum posts on this topic, but I don't like the...

Climbing and bb height, low gears

I only see sliding friction coefficient for rubber on road in the article. The static friction coefficient will dictate the steepest hill that can be climbed. I put the spreadsheet on Google Drive. Here is a link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6iQH3osKDkeSzRtV2JhZXU4eFU/view?usp=sharing...

Suggestions for a new bike carrier

Climbing and bb height, low gears

At Ratz' request, here is the math. I've attached two files. One is a diagram showing the forces acting on the center of gravity and the two contact points with the road. The other is the math. I also have a spreadsheet that contains the math for the three cases (no rolling or aero drag, no aero...

Climbing and bb height, low gears

I worked out the math for how the geometry and mechanics of the bike affects its ability to climb, hoping that it might reveal something about how I could easily prevent wheel slip on the steep hills in Northern California. The math shows what others have pointed out in this thread, that if you...

Climbing and bb height, low gears

My understanding is that both bikes have a 50-50 weight distribution (depends a bit on the rider). If that's true, then it is the difference in the height of the CG that produces better climbing traction for the Vendetta.

Climbing and bb height, low gears

I think it is the lower CG of the Vendetta that produces better traction. Longer wheelbase makes it easier to have a lower CG. -Cliff

After 4500 miles on my V I've developed "tennis elbow"

I'm having this same problem with my Silvio. The problem started after I made changes to the bike (rotated bars forward and moved them a little farther out) and after I started doing a lot more climbing. I was off the bike for two weeks recently for business travel, but soreness was there even...
