Sofrider arived an hour ago, YES!

Hi Bill, E-mail me your address and I'll send you a bushing. The kit differs in that the chainstays attache to a pair of adapter brackets that bolt to the donor bike fork, rather than the aluminum fork supplied on the full-up bikes. The bronze bushings mate the chainstay with the fork, but...

Sofrider arived an hour ago, YES!

Hi Bill, That's not a standard part at the hardware store, but it may be one of the bushings that gets shipped with the conversion kit, one of the ones that confuses everyone because you don't need it for the kit assembly. I will check it out and get back to you; I think I have a pair in the...

Bill, Please post a picture if you can, so I can check my parts pile. I assume you bought Bryan's V1...? Enjoy, Doug

    I'm baggin' it...

Thanks Rick, The bike fascinates me - appeals to my tinkering interest. If I had to do the rack over, I would get one with pannier bars (bars that descend to the sides) to stabilize pannier bags and keep them off the rear wheel. Looking for a good laptop carrier now- this puppy's gonna be my...

My Sofrider... Got this large seat wedge at Performance Bike for $11.99... Because the Sofrider uses a seat post and seat reails, seat wedge bags fit securely. This one holds just the right amount of stuff where it's out of the way and easy to get at. And it's expandable. Be well, Doug

Finally Conquered the E-Vile Gravel Driveway!

The Springloaded Tarmac of Death. Smitten. By Yakmurph the Forthright. “All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows...

    Bill's Goose

Very nice, Bill, Glad to see you're still developing and refining the bike. How's the handling with the lowered rear suspension? Keep at it, Doug

    Possible donor bike

Hello, Currystomper, You're welcome to add to other posts or start new ones, as suits you best - we are not etiquette-driven around here. Sometimes your post will get more attention if you start a new one... An interesting frame for sure, you'll certainly be up in the air, but you'll want to...

    Pagetuner's kit

Most excellent build. Nice handlebar interpretation, looks like you've got the internal-gear hub tensioning worked-out well also. If you use a front derailleur, you'll need a tensioning pulley to allow for chain take-up, but you probably have that worked out. Good on ya! Best, Doug

    700c conversion progress

Wow, what an excellent bike! So the wheels turned out to be 700c after all the discussion? How's the seat height for you? I like the road bars and brakes. Are those brifters, or are you handling the shifting another way? This front derailleur works quite well, even with larger chainrings...

    Campagnolo Centaur Bike

Hi Rob, I use a nightrider lamp, and It will attach to the TFT just as easily as the handlebar. I also have a video camera mountI built to fit on the TFT in the same way. But that really didn't have anything to do with the wrapping. I left a little more space on the bar center when I re-wrapped...

    Campagnolo Centaur Bike

HI Nanda, Thanks for the kind words, they mean a lot coming from a professional like yourself. The Campy stuff seems to lend itself to a clean-looking arrangement, and as a definite "Japanophile", I was very surpriesed and pleased with how it all works. The Jagwire parts really made the front...

    Campagnolo Centaur Bike

Not all progress is noble in appearance... So the Campy bike is in disassembly and packing to go to Bryan. The objective is to remove nothing that will require cables to be disconnected. The TFT will come out completely and the front triangle tube and crankset will be lashed to the side of...

    Tiara Conversion

"since I'm going with threaded I shouldn't need to use the long bolt since I'm not going to have one of the star lock washer things, the clamp on the bottom should do the job." Correct. It works fine. I've done it that way before; as a matter of fact the black Tiara above was done that way...

    Tiara Conversion

Kamatu. The brass bushings and spacers are not needed for your conversion. They are used in the assembly of the chainstay to the fork on a Freerider or Sofrider. As you can probably tell, we get kits by overproducing parts that are part of the full-up bikes. The contract that specifies the...

    Tiara Conversion

Hi Kamatu, There should be nothing between the fork dropout and the bracket hole. Parts installation order - outside to inside: Bolt-washer-fork dropout-triangle bracket-washer-nut. Use the bracket hole that places the triangle bracket clamp pad (the tab that's bent 90 degrees at the top of...

    Argh.

Hi, First, I'm sorry you're encountering difficulties with the bike shop around assembling the kit. I don't know that we've ever envisioned a lagre number of kits being assembled by bike shops, though many have done successful conversions. I suspect most conversions have been built by tinkerers...
