Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

A waxed chain is more likely to be changed, at least by me, as it is sooooooooo much less messy, touching it is no longer anathema. This means less wear on the rest of the drivetrain, which is a nice bonus.

You're right on the money, Balor!

    Steering damper/stabilizer

Looks like you can buy the viscoset headset from the Cane Creek site's store. www.canecreek.com/store/headsets/viscoset For my part, what I wanted was an anti-flop mechanism, as opposed to a steering damper. The Viscoset headset doesn't do anti-flop as far as I can tell. Mine, which is more...

    Steering damper/stabilizer

I looked for it a week or so ago. I found one distributor I think in the UK who was selling it. I decided to use silicone rubber bands instead for mine. Not as pretty, but does what I want and is very cheap.

What I did to prepare for Sebring 2017 ---today

I'm sure better weather will be more comfortable, but wouldn't more wind be an advantage for CBikers given better overall aero?

    Seat Mod

Looks great! For my part, I had a family emergency involving fractures trumped mounting the Thor. Thankfully it seems everything will be fine. Ah life.. Anyway, what was your technique for centering the seat, Cliff?

    Little tweaks

Ah, that sucks. I've had that happen when heading over to tour in Europe (flying from SFO -> Zurich). Super duper annoying at minimum.

    Seat Mod

You should also look at the thermoplastic way of doing it, as described here: http://cruzbike.com/forum/threads/s30-buildup-with-volae-comfort-carbon-l-seat.11469/#post-130440 The seat is very secure with the getup in that thread, though you don't get the advantage of the extra suspension, you...

    Seat Mod

I've drilled through the ribs. Imho, while Rick is right that this likely weakens the seat, it may not do so fatally-- my volae XL worked well with holes in the ribs. My dad's volae L worked well with holes in the ribs too. There is a huge caveat here, however-- I would not, and did not, put...

ULTRA Wide 11 Speed Gearing from Wolf Tooth

Yup. Running a 27 and 50 on the front, and 11-40 rear. I also find (i.e. I agree) that the Silvio doesn't need as low a gearing.

ULTRA Wide 11 Speed Gearing from Wolf Tooth

I have 18 gear inches with my gearing. It is too low to be useful when *I* would use it (on rather steep 13%+ grades) as the front wheel is so un-loaded that I just get wheel-slip constantly. I'm not sure that a higher gearing would be helpful on those very steep and slipper grades, mind you...

    QX100 early review

You could replace the 11-t idler at outer (lower) part of the derailleur with a 13t or perhaps (maybe, not sure) 15t idler. I did this on my long-cage to get a couple of additional teeth worth of capacity. It may get you some gears back. As a bonus, it also reduces the chances that the chain...

S30 buildup with Volae Comfort Carbon L seat.

When I would liked to have used the lowest gear (27->40, so 18 gear-inches or so), using the lowest gear resulted in massive wheel slip. This was typically on 12+% inclines If I had a trike instead, the wheel slippage would be annoying instead of prohibitive, since balance wouldn't be...

    Daydreaming of upgrades

When I used to tour the Alps I had a rim-brake bicycle. Interesting things discovered: 1) Rim-brakes fade when it is wet (which happens unpredictably on tours..) 2) Rim-brakes fade when the rim is too hot. 3) The air in the tube, when it gets warm, expands. This can cause the tube to violently...

    Daydreaming of upgrades

Yup. My friend demonstrated it. If you're putting your leg down while falling, then the distance between the ground and the seat can be arbitrarily small...

    V20 Wheel Size Question (19mm/27mm)?

Wider rims mean that more of the tire material is used to cross the width of the rim, instead of rising 'up'. Imagine the following. I have two inches of tire material. If my rim is two inches wide, then my tire will be stretched tightly across the rim and be basically as tall as the rim (and...

    Daydreaming of upgrades

Dear readers: We're joking around talking about braking with our feet instead of using brakes. For those of you who don't already know: Don't your legs as brakes on a recumbent, since it will easily lead to leg-suck. Leg-suck is where your leg gets "sucked" under the seat, and bends farther...

    New TiGr lock?

Looks like a kickstarter is going on for a new TiGr-mini lock. It is a bit larger than the one that Cruzbike sells. I have no idea, since I haven't had the mini, if a slightly larger TiGr will be better or not... Anyway, kickstarter is here.
