wahoo, almost done! - a few assembly questions, though.

After a few weeks trying to find a suitable donor, I settled on getting the sofrider V2K frame as nothing was showing up on craigslist that would be suitable. I'm quite happy I did, as the seat mounting is much cleaner and the rear forks are already spaced to take my old front wheel so I don't...

    new 700c conversion

as far as the front brake hitting the frame, I guess it would be possible if there were a huuuuge bump. The rock shox have the ability for a lot of travel, but they are also adjustable. I have them pumped up to over 200psi to keep them pretty solid, so the brake is about an inch below the...

    new 700c conversion

I sourced the shocks (used rock shox dukes,) rear deraileur, pedals, handlebar, stem, shifters, and brakes from a few bikes in the Bicycle Kitchen here in LA (I sometimes wrench there on mondays - ladies' night). The bottom bracket, cranks, chainrings, and wheels came from my old touring bike, I...

    Handling The Wild Weasel

I had my first ride today, went out to the Rose Bowl parking lot as it is huge and empty. I almost dumped it a couple of times, but after an hour I was mostly able to ride in a straight line, and sometimes able to start myself from a stop. It is certainly a challenge!

    new 700c conversion

wahoo! I finished it. I used my old mavic/wheelsmith 700cx23 wheels, and they fit without much problem. I had to put in a slightly thick spacer between the forks and the adapters to make the wheel fit well, but it doesn't seem too extreme. and the awesome 700c brake adapters made the brakes...

    700c fork suggestions wanted

Hi Doug, thanks for the link to those mavic brake extenders, I ordered a couple and they work wonderfully with the fork I picked up. My 700c wheel fits quite well with only a little bit of spacers between the forward brackets and the fork.

    700c fork suggestions wanted

Hey there, I'm not so worried about weight as I am about budget at the moment, thus I am looking for an inexpensive donor frame instead of the Sofrider frame. I admit that having the Sofrider frame would take out a lot of guesswork, though! Fabricating brake extensions wouldn't be horribly...

    700c fork suggestions wanted

Hi, I just ordered my conversion kit and have been searching craigslist for suitable donor frames. Fortunately, I have a very long inseam (33+ inches, I normally ride a 65cm road frame) so finding one with a low enough top tube shouldn't be too hard. I'm a long-time road cyclist, which is why I...
