    First cycling vacation coming soon

I use this technique on pretty much any start, regardless of terrain, or whether I'm riding a DF or Cruzbike.. It's an old habit carried over from riding bikes with toe clips. Discovering this improved my starts tremendously. I rarely wobble off into the grass/across the other lane any more...

    Previous Bicycles before a Cruzbike

1970—Sears 20” wheel bike, convertible from boys' to mixte by moving the top tubes. Junked late '70s after my little brother outgrew it. 1974—Sears Free Spirit Ted Williams 24” wheel girls' bike, 3-speed IGH. The only two-wheeler I could ever ride no-hands. 1981—Hand-me-down Sears Free Spirit...

    Q ring upgrade - Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh......

Ah, that makes sense. Could you share the 110BCD instructions, just for purposes of edification? Your steps definitely look faster. I've been rereading the major threads here on Q-ring orientation, and I'm getting closer to grokking it. My Q-rings are pretty close--I've installed 130BCD rings...

    Q ring upgrade - Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh......

Good, I wasn't the only one that ran into this when installing the 50T aero. I made it come out to 35 holes for the sake of figuring out the OCP points by counting the larger ...trapezoids?... as two holes, and the smaller ones as one hole. Once I got the ring oriented, the spider...

First Silvio ride was a wash...literally

Thanks! Figured if I was going to have to go to the 50T ring, I might as well get the red one. I'm doing way better pushing the larger ring than I thought I would. The bottle mount is one I had bought for the Q last year, where I could adjust the angle of the bottle relative to the mounting...

First Silvio ride was a wash...literally

I got hold of an X7 long-cage derailleur, just need to install it. Until then, as long as I make sure I'm on a large enough cog when I upshift the front, the shift is smooth and doesn't overshoot. Several times on my rides this week, I've felt like I was slogging along on the flats at about 12...

    Silvio seat

It isn't just you. I'll take the word of those who have the extremely reclined bikes that the seats are indeed comfortable and well designed; but I have no plans to do the kinds of riding that warrant such a laid-back angle. I was fortunate to find someone who was willing to sell me his Silvio...

    Need a Silvio right brifter

I'm still pleased with it, after more than 100 miles. :D

Chain coming off e-ring of Quest 2

I found this thread last year when I was having chain drops on my Q451. Between adding the Jumpstop, and having the rear derailleur cable replaced because the RD wouldn't stay adjusted for more than a couple of weeks, I haven't dropped the chain in months.

    Club rides

I started with the Q451 a year ago. I had been fascinated by the FWD/MBB concept, but I didn't want the extremely laid-back seat angle and high bottom bracket of the then-current Silvio or Vendetta. As I'm 5'5", even the Sofrider and Q559 seemed too high for the times I'd need to get my feet...

    V20 full build ordered

Alan, I have one I'd be willing to let go. :D

Will do. Gives me an excuse to get the Type 2 while I'm at it. Thanks!

First Silvio ride was a wash...literally

I have a 50/34. I can easily stay away from 34-12, whether it rubs or not. I'd like to have 50-28 usable. 50-32 would be a bonus. (1) I set up the Q-rings, making sure they were in phase, and that seemed to help the shifting. (2) I'm 5'5", and my x-seam is about 40.5". Does that count as...

First Silvio ride was a wash...literally

Not yet, but I'll give it a try this weekend. How many usable cogs (12-36 10-speed) should I have when I'm on the big ring? I know not to cross-chain to the 36T cog, and that the 32T is probably too sharp a chain angle as well. The chain was rubbing when I tried to use the 28T--a not-so-subtle...

First Silvio ride was a wash...literally

Making some progress... Got the Silvio back Friday from being re-adjusted for the 50T Q-ring. Shifting is a lot better, but not completely right. An upshift on the front can still throw the chain off to the outside if I'm on too small a cog on the cassette. I've never ridden a bike or trike...

    Painless in Flowood

Painless in Flowood, Mississippi's first-ever recumbent rally, has drawn to a close, save for a handful of intrepid recumbenteers who are riding the Natchez Trace end to end this week, 444 miles from Natchez to Nashville. Two-wheeled recumbents and tadpole trikes were well represented. There...

SRAM 11-speed 11-36 cassette for double chainrings?

I still haven't heard back from him. His profile info says he was last seen here March 29.

Light mount at botton bracket for Quest

I use the T-cycle bracket on my Quest, except mounted just below the handlebars on the steering mast. It serves double duty by grouping the shift and brake cables together.

    Cruzbike School is open Again

Eight inches? In six months?! How old is he? My 14-year-old grew 4" last year, and he was constantly hungry.
