    Flat Front Shock

The tightness of the boom bolt is unrelated to suspension leaking. With the bolt tightened such that the boom is secure, the boom and sleeve can still pivot about this bolt: Assuming the front carboyoke doesn't extend or compress in it's primary plane then the boom pivots about this bolt when...

    Flat Front Shock

Thought experiment: let's say you've got an S30 in front of you. Now make the section of the fork from the bottom of the headtube down to the dropouts disappear (all of the fork below the headtube). Keep the BB and boom angle w.r.t. the frame fixed. Now apply a vertical force to the dropouts of...

    Flat Front Shock

It becomes clear with an S30 in front of you that compressing the suspension puts a torque on the boom clamp pivot on the top of the headtube (it's hard to explain/visualize this, much easier to see when you can play with it). When I first got my S30 I didn't realize that the boom must pivot...

    Flat Front Shock

You can test to make sure the bolt is loose enough by: Remove front skewer and wheel Unhook the lowest portion of cable housing that leads from the fork to the rear derailleur. Pop chainstay off of fork. At this point you should be able to rotate the boom about the aforementioned bolt smoothly...

    Flat Front Shock

It's true that the chainstay flexes, but it is also true that the boom pivots about a horizonal axis running left to right at the top of the head tube. You can see that the design allows for this rotation by telescoping the boom (as one would do when adjusting for BB-to-seatpan distance) and...

    Flat Front Shock

Oh yea. Procedure is important when using the provided pump. Make sure to pump up your shock and then unscrew the flexible tube without letting the black piece that's in contact with the pump rotate. This allows the pump's tooth to back out, the valve can close, and then you unscrew the black...

    Flat Front Shock

Does your pump gauge read 180 psi as soon as you screw it in far enough that it opens the valve to your shock bladder? Or do you give a few pumps and then it reads 180? I ask because it's possible the bladder is very low but every time you screw the pump the valve isn't opening. Without the...

    Kervelo Tilting Trike

If I were to purchase a bike with similar load carrying capacity I would be most concerned with speeds up to about 25 mph. An efficient, light (for a cargo bike), and aero bike would make load transport easy. As long as it doesn't get dangerously unstable at descent speeds (say around 45 mph)...

    Kervelo Tilting Trike

FWD MBB cargo recumbent! I think it is an amazing concept. The cargo is behind you in an aerodynamic position and very low. Benefits of good visibility and short drive train, too!

    Crank length

An effective pedal stroke will actuate the pedalers ankles, knees, and hips through acceptable ranges. Too short and you're spinning your feet wildly in circles devoting all your energy to changing the momentum (accelerating) your legs instead of putting power to the pavement. Too long and your...

Will the S30's BB frame not accept 30mm spindle setups?

The S30's chainstay clamps (the part that clamps around the external BB cartridges) will only with with 24 mm spindle setups, right? It seems that a 30 mm spindle would require external bearings too wide to fit in the S30's chainstay clamps. So we're stuck using 24 mm setups then, yea...

    Curved boom on S30 creaking

I found the source of the creak. It was coming from the inner boom that leads to the bottom bracket sliding a bit inside of the curved boom. I put a little grease on the inner boom so that it doesn't grab on the outer boom.

    Curved boom on S30 creaking

I'm getting severe creaking while pedaling. I recently got into an accident and also replaced the old slider boom with the new curved boom. It sounds like the creaking is coming from the upper headset/curved boom clamp area. Has anyone else had creaking issues with the new curved boom? Elliot

    Chainstay length, BB height

    That's why I asked for a comparison of S30+150mm versus V20.

    Chainstay length, BB height

Thank you for the response. It's a thank you for the response. The relationship of bottom bracket height and body position to power production and aerodynamics is complicated.

    Chainstay length, BB height

I'm hoping someone out there has both a V20 and an S30 to comment on how his two setups compare.
