The boom need to be adjusted with the clamp, BB clamps and wheel skewer loose. I had similar problems and found that I hadn't loosened the front wheel skewer which prevented full adjustment. Just a thought.

Air shocks on the Quest have been the subject of earlier posts. I fitted a Kind Shock RE A5 to my series 1 Q and agree that it makes a big difference to the ride. The 125mm RE A5 ( if they are still available) has only one inlet so there is no need to ever remove it from the bike to inflate it.
