Jim Parker is the best I have seen. He can lace the fingers of his hand behind his head and ride down the road straight and smooth. I believe one of the keys is to maintain a constant even presure on the pedals all the around if you can. I have never been good at it at all.

When you have 31 Cruzbikes (and 7 others), you have a lot of chains. I decided to clean and wax all of them - 2 days later they are about 50% done. So far I have degreased and scrubbed them all down, and then gave them each 3 baths in Mineral Spirits and wipe down. All hanging to dry - next step...

I might try using a brake cable as a fish tool. It might be strong enough to get past what is holding up the string. Of course the hardest thing is pulling it out through the hole when you see it. But maybe just the exercise will free up the space for the string to blow through

You can also use the Wahoo Snap - you don't have to take your front (drive wheel) off for it. It is a little noisier since the wheel rolls on a cylinder but it works fine as far as reporting power.
