    Cracked Carbon Wheel

Here's my smashed tubular carbon Bontrager wheel. Going down a modest slope, my Silvio S30 started uncontrollable oscillations and the front wheel ran into a curb. That was one year ago, and I still haven't replaced it and started riding again. Got to get it done.

    Vendetta for the Clydesdale

Do you mean a "stem riser"? Perhaps I should look into that. With an X-seam of 47.5", I find on my Silvio S30 that I have to bring the handlebars back toward my chest in order that my knees won't hit the bars. That leaves me with very bent elbows, which are probably not very aero. If I could...

Does Cycling Cause Brittle Bones? Is a recumbent worse?

As I age, now 65, I have noticed that cross-sports fitness doesn't seem to happen like it used to. I am in great shape for rowing right now, but it seems to have very little impact on my fitness for cycling or running. I have to do the sports-specific training regularly in all sports I want to...

    crash advice

Oakland PD is totally useless. I had a robbery IN PROGRESS at my business, they didn't send anybody for 3 hours. For something like a bike crash, they won't send anybody. Just file your report online, at least that works and is not too difficult.

Aero Wheels designed for 28mm tires?

No, that's not what I mean. Correct, there is no field repair with tubulars. All you have to do is take off the old (flat) tire and put on your spare. There is enough glue or tape to hold the tire on the rim. It's not a good permanent solution, but it should be good enough to finish your ride...

Aero Wheels designed for 28mm tires?

I don't understand. You're talking about Schwalbe Pro One's, which are tubeless. You can have catastrophic failure on tubeless, just the same as tubular, right? And how do you repair the tubeless in that case? You can insert a spare tube if you are carrying one, but on tubular you do the same...

Aero Wheels designed for 28mm tires?

I prefer to run tubulars. Is there any reason why one could not use one of the many cyclocross tubular wheels set up for disc brakes, running one of the wider road tubular tires? You can find these on the used market at reasonable prices.

T50 - Everyone likes a bike you can kick start

I'd like to see a smart-trainer version. Only an inexpensive rear wheel, 1x11 cheap groupset, no brakes. I guess that's easy enough to build from the frame-only, but it would be nice to have it already built.

Cruzbiking vendetta on kickr long term

I have a surfski in storage that I would love to convert to a recumbent watercraft. I think it is very feasible, and will probably be faster on the water than any of the existing pedal boats that have been created. I can't see any reason for a MBB, so I suppose I could chop up my Bacchetta...

    S30 Max. Xseam advice please.

I am the same size, actually 47.5" x-seam. I recently bought an S30 with the large chainstay extension. Although Cruzbike doesn't advertise it on the site, it is available by asking. It seems to be a good fit. I have only one issue that I have not solved - the handlebars. Since my arms are also...

Are you running the correct tire pressure?

Does anybody here run tubulars? I do, and I flatted last weekend, probably because I did not yet put sealant in the tires. My MBB handling skills are still poor, but I had no trouble rolling to a stop. I suspect that it's easier to ride on a flat tubular than a flat tubeless tire.

Importance and effects of rotational weight

No difference. Adding 1 lb, in the same relative location, will add the same amount to the moment of inertia, whether front or rear wheel. Whether you drive the wheel directly at the cassette, or spin it from the rim, it takes the same energy.

Climbing and bb height, low gears

Here is what my brain determines is a reasonable explanation. The distance of the rider's center of mass from the front wheel is approximately the same in both bikes, and is determined by the front triangle plus leg length. But if the wheelbase of the V is longer, then the front/rear...

Boom ... was that an S30 that just passed you?

There appears to be no chainstay extension for the S30 now. With a 47.5" Xseam, it appears that I'm out of the fit range for this bike. @Robert Holler can you confirm?

Diet: Low Carb and Ultra Cycling

I have used a ketone testing meter in the past. It is of some use, but not great because the measurements don't have much precision. It appears that I am not yet allowed to post the link, but you can search for "ketone meter" on Amazon and find one.

Vendetta versus Silvio on less-than-ideal road surfaces

I have had no problems mounting the Schwalbe Pro One tubeless on my Campagnolo Eurus aluminum wheels. Only minimum effort with tire levers needed, and inflated with a simple hand pump.

Vendetta versus Silvio on less-than-ideal road surfaces

I, too, have been trying to decide between Silvio and Vendetta. I want it to be suitable for riding in Bali, where the roads are narrow and there can be a lot of potholes. I much prefer tubeless, so running 28mm Schwalbe Pro Ones on the Vendetta might be good enough that I can do without the...
