    Chain waxing

Can someone point me to the thread about waxing, by Ratz, i think. I am particularly interested in getting a sonic cleaner, and where and what kind of wax to buy. TIA Rod

    650B's S40 Conversion

Not to drift too far afield from the original topic or incite a religious war, but … I'm a big fan of waxing, been waxing for a couple of decades (bicycle chains, not myself). But, I wouldn't recommend wax for a winter commuting bike, as it simply doesn't last at all well in wet conditions. For...

    Hurricane Florence passing through

Great video! Were your chains waxed or oiled? An opportunity for a post to the long chain-waxing thread! Seriously, I saw some other videos of Lumberton where the folks weren't having nearly as much fun ...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

+1 I have been experimenting with Squirt (wax-based lube you squeeze on to the chain like conventional bike chain lubricants). If it is mid-week and the chain starts making "wax me now" noises on my S40 commuter I put Squirt on it. It's not quite as good as re-waxing the chain, but the chain...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

I commute. I have not recently cleaned the drivetrain. I just cleaned my whole drivetrain: chain, cogs, jockey wheels, chainrings. I have been waxing my chain for a while now, the last several times with just dipping the chain and without cleaning anything else. Here are pictures of the...

T50 - whatcha planning to build.....

Did the 58-559 Compass Rat Trap Pass tires fit on your T50? If so, I’d like to try them, but they are expensive, so don’t want to buy them to find they don’t fit.

    Newbie questions

Thanks for the link, not quite what I'm looking for but it gives me some ideas. I'm looking to be able to get the drive wheel suspended so I can do any adjustments with the derailleurs and cleaning the chain when it needs it. I did see the comments about chain waxing, I may look into it further...

Folding a Q45 to put in a vehicle

Chain waxing is not a 1 time thing. I have been getting at least 500 miles per waxing. I don’t ride in the rain much. I did a 50 mile organized ride in wet conditions. On my next ride, I noticed a squeaking sound. Went away after I re- waxed the chain. I am not sure how much it had to do with...

Folding a Q45 to put in a vehicle

I have seen posts about chain waxing, but I never came across much of a need until I was putting the Q45 in the trunk. I will investigate it some more. Once waxed is there rewaxing needed every so often, or is it a 1 time thing? The stand I made was impromptu when I was tired of the bike...

Our Three T50 Builds, and Maybe a Sofrider Retro-fit

If the chain is skipping on light tension, it might be the links in the chain aren't loose enough. Notwithstanding the erstwhile thread on Chain Waxing, even old engine oil's better than a ginger, noisy chain. But I'm sure you're well beyond that, my dear old thing. Another idea, is the tension...

    Bike Sebring 2018

Has anyone ever received a warm weather gift for Christmas and not be able to enjoy it until summer? This was my recent experience. In Indiana, bicycles stay inside from Thanksgiving until the gales of March reside. I purchased a V20 bike frame in early November with the hopes of riding it in...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

Wow great Aussie science :D I really should have spent more time cleaning my YBN titanium before waxing / renewing my wax

What I did Today to prepare for Sebring 2018

My wax is always black, even when new. I use the FrictionFacts recipe with molybdenum disulfide and teflon - supposedly better than just paraffin. And yes, all you hear after that is the sound of silence :)

    Refurbishing a Quest

...the round black bit is the tire - just above that is a curve of lighter floor showing through. After reading the thread here about waxing chains, I went looking for sources for Molten Speedwax here in Australia, and found zerofrictioncycling.com. I consulted, and he looked for...

What I did Today to prepare for Sebring 2018

I survived today, but not by much. Today I rode where I have never went on a trainer. It was a 5 hour workout. I had some technical difficulties at the beginning. Zwift was disconnecting my trainer after 3-5 mins in, twice. I could have fat fingered a button on the mobile app. There are...

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

In case anyone is interested, probikekit is having cybe Mon discount. KMC chains seem to be a good deal at $31.49 for x-10EL Ti-N. https://www.probikekit.com/brands/kmc.list?search=kmc I haven't taken the plunge to try chain waxing. Just sharing good buys.

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

Thank you. That job got a whole lot easier when I started waxing. After a season of riding the bits are still very clean. The new chain has the most gunk on it.

Chain WAXing (yes it's that easy) - and other mysteries of this art!

You need to strip all grease and grim from everything the chain touches including itself before waxing.

    The Cadence Conversations

I'm generally not mashing at 70-ish rpm, just spinning on the slow end. And most of the time, probably on 53-18 and 53-21 with up and down shifts for all of the short little hills around here. Haven't changed the chain until I was prepping for the MHPVA event back on June 24-25, 2017 weekend and...

2017 Cruzbike retreat in White Lake, NC

Doug - I did the same thing after seeing the @ratz chain waxing operation before RAAM. I will also testify to the efficacy of the keto approach, in general.
