Columbia River Gorge Tour on my S30

This was a very pampered tour. Snacks and water, amazing dinners, luggage carried, etc. This was incredibly beautiful, but at this point in the ride, it looked like an elevation map.

Columbia River Gorge Tour on my S30

A big THANK YOU to Robert at Rose City Recumbents for a tune up before the ride and helping me with my bike rack dilemma. It was a pleasure meeting you, Julie and Jonathon at the shop. My Silvio rode beautifully the entire trip. So why didn't we get a picture together??

Columbia River Gorge Tour on my S30

If you haven’t experienced a multi-day cycling tour, I highly recommend it. June 20-27th I took a 7 day 377 mile fully supported tour on my S30 around Oregon and Washington. The tour started and ended in Gresham, OR. and was through Adventure Cycling Tours. I can sum it up as the most...

Introducing the family to the Q

This is awesome. Willingness is the first step. I had to laugh at the LBS kid who put my fenders on the Silvio. He asked if he could ride it - he looked pretty confident, tough and responsible. But I had to laugh when he came back walking the bike and told me it was too scary. He actually...

    First cycling vacation coming soon

Wow, that's some talented riding. Most people can't even grab a water bottle let alone smack someone. Lol.

    Where is everybody?

Riding! Well, Saturday and Sunday. Today ... working. :( Gotta pay for the bike somehow. My friends were quite impressed with my badge retractor/camelback holder.

1st century - longest ride ever

Charles, you're brilliant. My work badge will now have to stay in my pocket. I used this today on my morning ride and it was brilliant. Thanks.

1st century - longest ride ever

Ratz, where do you put all the bottles? Are you carrying 5 bottles? 3 bottles premixed and two behind your head?

1st century - longest ride ever

I think you'll be surprised at how fast this will come along. I can finally remove, drink and replace my water bottle without wobbling. I use a camelback on my S30, backwards behind the headrest, jerry rigged to make it secure. The last ride I just used it as a reservoir to fill my water...

Thanks, I'll look that up. When I did have music on today Nora Jones was singing "creep on in" which was cruel since I was moving slowly up a hill. She's out of my playlist! Ha.

1st century - longest ride ever

Congrats! I went 68.5 today and I'm beat!!! I got stopped by a guy in a parking lot after our first break. He yelled "Hey come back here with that bike". So I obliged and he drooled all over it lol. Ha, maybe have a new cruzbiker because of the stop. Ha. Great job today!!!!!

Did I buy the right bike? I think so. Help me make sure

Yes yes and yes you did the right thing! I felt like a drunk driver for weeks with my wobbles - but it will come with time. The front wheel drive was tough to learn but it's a completely different beast. One you'll learn to love. Just keep reading and apply all the pointers and you'll come...

    First cycling vacation coming soon

68.5 miles complete. Accidentally turned off strava at 49 miles. Oh the sadness I'll never know if I hit 40 down my favorite hill. And now no one will know there was a substantial uphill climb I endured. Update on pointers: I can rock and roll! Thank goodness for the advice or I may still...

    First cycling vacation coming soon

I started doing this as well and it has helped tremendously. I also boost myself up on the seat back just a bit, then slide down once I start moving which seems to help my balance on take offs. I was playing around with left vs right foot starts because I'm so right handed that when I started...

    First cycling vacation coming soon

Ah, so many great pointers! I downloaded a metronome app, will try that tonight. I don't currently focus on spinning on the hills so I'll start practicing that. I mainly focus on surviving. When I was learning to ride my sofrider and stopped on a hill, I got stuck every time until I pointed...

    First cycling vacation coming soon

I'm taking a fully supported bike tour June 20-27th in Oregon and am excited and nervous. Mainly nervous about hills and rain (we don't get much rain here). Any pointers on hills would be greatly appreciated. I've been practicing the hills in my area and while I'm getting better I pretty much...
