Belt drive on a thru-axle Cruzbike

...Q45. It's the most comfortable bike I have ever owned. The Speedhub will give me the gear range I need and there should be no issues with the drive train. Rohloff is well known for reliability and quality. But, I still don't know for sure that it will work on my Q45. I'm on pins and needles.

Belt drive on a thru-axle Cruzbike

I am currently working with a LBS and Rohloff to fit the speedhub to my Q45. The jury is still out. I'll come back and report my experience once it's complete. Edit: for the record, it won't be cheap. The current estimate is about $2200 - $2400.

Hi Dudley. I saw that you have experience with converting a Q45 drivetrain to a Rohloff Speed Hub. I'm trying to do the same. I worked with my LBS to contact Rohloff with information and photos of the bike. They replied the following: Did you have to do anything special to make the Rohloff...

    Internal geared hub

Thanks for the info. I would like to find a LBS in Austin to do the conversion for me on my Q45. It's tough enough to find a bike shop that will work on a Cruzbike, much less convert it to a Rohloff speed hub. But, I'll shop around.

...was looking into this. He learned that if you have the thru-axle version of these bikes, there may be some compatibility hurdles to overcome. Rohloff does not make a thru-axle SPEEDHUB and I'm not sure any of the other mass-produced internally geared hubs are made for that standard either...

I am sorry to hear this. Very baffling and frustrating. I am wondering, at the beginning of the thread, you stated you used Rival derailleur. I have Eagle GX AXS derailleur and 10/52 cassette on my Q45 and it works fine. I don't know if that would make a difference or if you want me to take a...

...and I have to get off the bike and reset the chain.. I'm about as frustrated about the Q45 as I could be. I can't seem to make a drive train work on it. I love everything else about the bike. I may look for a bike shop that does Rohloff speed hub conversions, since nothing else seems to work.

    Internal geared hub

I don't have an S40 (yet) but, I do have the Rohloff on my Lightening R84. Here are the pics of the 2 cables connecting to the Rohloff hub. From riding this bike shifting the twister on the handlebar is not exactly smooth like butter. It takes some effort. There is also some give or energy...

At my wits end with the SRAM AXS Eagle 1x12 derailleur

...of money and time invested with nothing to show for it. I am likely to give up on SRAM and either go back to Shimano or investigate the Rohloff speed hub. I'd like to try the latter but I'm afraid it will be another long boondoggle that may not work right in the end. I wouldn't' be able...

Does anyone else have a design Wishlist for the next model of Q series?

The Classified hub has its bluetooth receiver in the thru-axle so it won't fit in the current setup (Cruzbike uses a slightly longer thru-axle to accomodate the chain-stays).

Does anyone else have a design Wishlist for the next model of Q series?

If money is no object. The Rohloff speedhub is about $1400. the combo SRAM 12 speed group set plus Classified hub is well over $3000, which is nearly the cost of the Q45.

Does anyone else have a design Wishlist for the next model of Q series?

The Classified hub with a SRAM 12 speed would add a huge range for gearing and the Classified hub would weigh much less then the Rohloff.

Take Border Collie on 4,000km GDT (Great Divide Bike Trail). Steep gravel-road climbs and paved 20km descents. That means Rohloff w/belt-drive front-end and rear hub motor for the climbs with regenerative braking on-top-of hydraulic-brakes for the descents. Not racing, but not lollygagging...

    Internal geared hub

Has anyone replaced the standard drivetrain with a Rohloff internal hub and rim assembly using a S40 frame set? I am interested in how the 2 cable system is routed from handlebar to frame. Was the rim a special build?

...and visa versa. I will need to find a LBS that will work on recumbents and are Sram certified techs so they can process the Warranty return. If I can't get it replaced, I'll either go back to Shimano or look at implementing a Rohloff. Other than that, the bike's done and ready for touring.

    Q45 in Germany

Have done just a few kilometres on the Q45 but it is totally different by concept. The Greenmachine has 20“ wheels, rear wheel drive with a Rohloff hub in the pivot point of the rear swing, and tiller steering. The Greenmachine is a pretty reliable touring recumbent but also quite heavy...

Does anyone else have a design Wishlist for the next model of Q series?

...I'm only interested in purchasing frames, not whole bikes as I'm very picky about my components, seats and handlebars. I don't know how many people fall into that category. I have an interest for a Rohloff with Gates carbon belt, but I don't know how difficult it would be in integrate on...

...- Furthermore- Room for larger tires, up to like 2.6". With fenders if possible. - Air shock - Bachetta CA3-style dropouts which support both QRs and Thru. QRs are much easier to electrify than Thru. - Rohloff hub+carbon belt option, or at least 2x instead of 1x - Lighter, Lightning-style frame

Does anyone else have a design Wishlist for the next model of Q series?

I feel like of all 'bents to convert to a Rohloff, a Cruzbike would be by far the easiest. Or at least would have the most advantages. You couldn't use a Gates carbon belt with a RWD. I remember reading a while back that Cruzbike was in contact with Rohloff, but that you need to do a bunch of...
