SOLD - Cruzbike Q45 custom electric build

:D agreed. Win for me and for CB. This will now be my bike to experiment on. Next step... maybe a wheel build with a Rohloff 500/14;)

    Help me choose

...curve" business is worth it. Bike is a blast. I just feel sorry for the poor old Grasshopper with its front and rear springs, massive load capacity and Rohloff gears. I never threw the Silvio in the lake. It just looks like I did. So does the Grasshopper. I seem to have that effect on...

An S40 update 350 miles in

...got a virus. The sort that gives you n+1 disease. With the long cranks you are going against the trend on this forum. Jason has trouble convincing himself to get on his DF. I have trouble convincing myself to ride my poor old Grasshopper with its oh-so-nice Rohloff and springs. Silvio is...

Shimano has patented a bicycle gearbox

For the MTB racers, the only advantage this has over a Rohloff is the weight-distribution. From the Cruzbike point of view, you want the BB to be as light as possible. For everyone else, the weight-distribution matters less. This has a twist-grip, same as Rohloff. Those MTB people hate the...

Pelso Brevet review / comparison to vendetta.

sometimes I want to paint my hurricane green. Yes upper body input value hits home after riding rear wheel fixed bb bents and coming back to mbb.

Pelso Brevet review / comparison to vendetta.

...steering is most noticeable. I keep the Grasshopper because it has the Radical Banana bags, the biggest size, so I can carry stuff. I like the springs, but now I have Tannus I know that pneumatic tyres absorb impacts that springs do not. I also like the Rohloff. Could not fit one on the...

10 speed compact double on S-40

Nor do I. That is why I like my Grasshopper's Rohloff. I do not like Disraeli gears, but if I must have them I will have a single chainwheel because double clangers makes me SICK. Therefore I got XX1 because it was the biggest number of gears I could find. They then invented the 12sp cog. I...

    T50 water bottle option

...V brake levers and locking grips finish the controls. So far the drivetrain has been very reliable. Obviously the Shimano IGH systems are no Rohloff, but I can replace the Shimano hubs 6 or 7 times before I could buy one Rohloff. For lights I use a battery based system. I'm still...

What fenders to go with S40?

...This is astonishing. I took my front hub apart and converted it to XX1. I thought that was going to be complicated. The cable of the Rohloff of my Grasshopper broke. I got a new one and fitted it. That was complicated. But mudguards? Absolute PIG to make work. Now they are probably...

    650B's S40 Conversion

...time it takes to shift, bit it is no worse than the Sachs Huret I had on the Claud Butler. When I got the Grasshopper I decided I loved the Rohloff would never again submit to the ordeal of Disraeli gears, but here I am with a friction-shifter. I got 1x11 because at least I do not have to...

Vendetta frame life i.e well made tough as teak.

Did you notice any diminished performance in comfort going to tannus. What tyres did you use previously on grasshopper. Great bike I lust after one by the way. But the hurricane is pretty similar.

    S40 on gravel?

...then wheel-spin, but I have learned to cope with a small amount of wheel-spin. As we all must. My Grasshopper made me a bit sybaritic. The Rohloff is a lotus-eater's drivetrain. Then I got N+1 disease. The Silvio gave me a proper reminder of the road surface. Partly because I...

Vendetta frame life i.e well made tough as teak.

...the workstand, if I removed the Grasshopper's back wheel it used to take nearly an hour to get it on again. Fatal combination of problems. Rohloff, disk brakes and the Grasshopper will not stand upside down. That is why I got the stand. So I decided not to get a flat in the street any...

    Chain coming off chainring

I had a similar problem for a while on the S40. I had too many spacers on the drive side of the BB (initially set up for a Rohloff hub then switched to 1x11). The square taper bottom bracket in your picture above looks pretty wide (based on looking at the left crank arm). It looks like you can...

    Quest V2 upgrade

In the middle of the back wheel of my Grasshopper is a boulder made of a mixture of polluted mud, acid rain, grit, dog poo, horse poo and I know not what. Inside there is a Rohloff, refusing to die. That is 14 gears for 15 years of abuse. So the cost per year is not that high.

    Quest V2 upgrade

A Rohloff hub will give you 14 gears: very reliable, but not cheaper or lighter. 1 x 11 or 12 setup works well.

Considering giving Cruzbike a second chance...

...how efficient Kervelo front hub is (likely less than a chain drive, but certainly less so than a combination of a hub gear + chain drive... Rohloff, for instance, was found to be only a *bit* less efficient than derailleur gears). Their midracer (BB at seat level) should be a decently aero...

    S40- Wow!

Indeed! Not *just* weight, but steering inertia resulting from weight times radius SQUARED.

    S40- Wow!

Something to bear in mind is all the weight up front. A Rohloff might make more sense. With a belt of course ;)

2019 S40 Frame set - What Wheels and Group set?

I ran 1x on my S40 for a while. I'm now running 2x11. I have an old 14 speed Rohloff hub I used with a 44 chainring. I spun out at less than 30 mph, but I couldn't go to a bigger chainring without my cadence being too low on the hills I ride. Also, efficiency was poor (1.4mph slower up the same...
