    Univega Cruzbike finally complete

Thanks for all of the good input. I tried like crazy to avoid getting the bars up so high. With my leg length i could never find a seat vs. handlebar position that gave me knee clearance and a good reach. I can bring the handlebars down but then I have to move the seat up and then my arms are...

    Univega Cruzbike finally complete

Well I had a heck of a time getting this baby ready to ride. I think some of my diffuculties arose from not using an ideal donor bike. My biggest problems was Knee/Handlebar clearance; I finally had to buy a stem extention so that I could keep the seat far enough back to keep handling...

    Handlebar vs. knee positioning/setup

Do you have any recommendations on how long of an extension on the stem? I would think almost none, I just didn't see one that fits that bill on Nashbar, maybe the LBS will have one. thanks

    Front Derailer and Cables

Doug, Thanks for the info, Nashbar has a good price on a front derailer but i wanted to get the right clamp size...i'm getting close to having something rideable. Cheers

    Front Derailer and Cables

I did some searching and i'm wondering if someone can tell me the diameter of the tube where the front derailer should attach. I don't have calibers and the front derailer from my mtn bike is much too small. On Cables; do most of you guys bother re-using your old cables? At my LBS they will...

    Handlebar vs. knee positioning/setup

As i've gotten closer to completing my conversion i've come up with more questions than answers. I have searched the forum and I think my ability to choose the right keyword is weak...i apologize if these questions have already been answered. Knee vs. Handlebars: I'm struggling with this...

Conversion Kit Assembly questions, fork adapter

Jack, are there any rules of thumb for how deep into the very long dropouts on the front triangle plate you should place the front axle? I assume you want to be pretty consistent for front derailer placement, brake adjustment, etc. thanks

Conversion Kit Assembly questions, fork adapter

I am sure not on the ball with photos...sorry about that. Mark, Here is a photo of my fork adapter, you can see that "not sitting flush" that i'm talking about. I pulled the clamp back for the photo, I'm thinking this is a non-issue but i just want to make sure. I will make sure everything is...

Conversion Kit Assembly questions, fork adapter

Thanks for the input, i just wondered if I was loosing it, late night wrenching things tend to not fit...and its not usually the parts. Tonight I assembled a little more of the front assembly...duh that's where the nylon washers go, thanks Doug. Mark, I think I lucked out on the fork triangle...

Conversion Kit Assembly questions, fork adapter

I got my conversion kit a few weeks ago, I finally got my donor (I will snap photos later tonight) disassembled and have begun getting it converted. Last night I ran into a problem, or maybe its just me, with the fork adapter assembly. The bolts that came with the fork plate did not fit...

    Downtube Donor Question

Jack, Thanks for that great info. I don't think of myself as competitive but speed is something I enjoy so I will go with the 26" wheels. I actually picked up a univega donor last night, I'll have to start getting some pics going in a new thread. Cheers Jim

    Downtube Donor Question

I've seen a few folks use the downtube folding bike as a donor. I was not able to find ,however, any reviews of how it worked out, how the bike rode, etc. There is a nearly new full suspension downtube bike near me on craigslist. My conversion kit arrived on Saturday and i'm trying not to be...

Just bought the kit...have a few questions

thanks for all the prompt feedback. Jon: most of my riding is on bike paths with some humps and bumps, nothing crazy. I really hadn't made up my mind on tire size, I would probably go with a slightly fatter tire and 90-100 psi. thanks for the comment about sitting up when stopped, I have a...

Just bought the kit...have a few questions

Well after months of lurking around on here I finally ordered the kit. I do have a few general questions: 1. How much should I be focused on finding a full suspension donor? See the attached photo for a possibility near me that is only front suspension, will that be enough to soak up the...
