conceptualizing a folding MBB (for having it custom built)

I've built two (three if you count my folding tandem); I'm about to cannibalize my suspended folding Cruzbike and put it on another folding frame. The problem with Birdy is the front fork. But if you swap out another fork, I think it would make a lovely folding Cruzbike.

Changing to lower gearing switching to S40

On my Sofrider and conversions, I am able to ride below 3mph spinning up big hills. My bikes are geared down to under 17". Does everybody need this? Can everybody ride every Cruzbike this slow? Probably not. Is it what you need? I don't kinow.

    Building a Cruz Clone

Very nice! You did a really nice job. The handle bars took a little too close to you. A further away might help with stability.

    Building a Cruz Clone

Nice! I want to see pictures with a human on it and video of it being rided. (Or it never really happened. :) )

    How about a Tandem!?!

Yes, I think it could be done, but might not be perfect. Getting something that's a little less steep (and not too high) might work better. Bike Friday would be the ultimate: Something like the Afar 20" 24 Speed Dual Derailleur System Drive Family Foldable Tandem Bicycle would work well, too:

S40 test ride in the San Francisco/Bay area?

It's also possible a non-Cruzbike seat will fit you better. Lots of people have had lots of luck with other seats.

    First Cruzbike Ride in Months

They're also harder to balance. On dry pavement, it isn't an issue, but on ice, it can be an issue.

    First Cruzbike Ride in Months

I don't ride as much as I used to, but I do ride 4 miles every day to and from the train station. Rain/sleet/snow I ride. When it is snowy/icy, I ride my upright folding bike with studded tires. I could mount studded tires on my commuting Cruzbike, but given my angle, I think balancing on icy...

Do headwinds affect your speed more than tailwinds?

It's almost certainly true. Aerodynamic drag adds a force proportional to speed squared. So increasing the wind you hit by 2 mph is going to have a larger effect than decreasing it by 2 mph.

balance assisting tilting trike prototype 2

I was just saying a couple nights ago over dinner how much I like napkin drawings. O.k. I didn't actually say that. But I would love to see yours. :D

    extremely steep hill climb

This is why I like having very low gears. I don't get up hills quickly, but I generally get up them. I find the exception to this is very steep hills where I find I need to sit up to move my weight over the front wheel to help with slippage. I can only do this for short hills, but I've made...

    How to Pedal Steer

    1) The picture is right. But not really helpful. 2) Yes, you can pedal in such a way that you don't turn the bike. But actually pedaling that way is likely to do bad things to your knees, etc. 3) There are lots of reasons you are more stable when you are clipped in. Your feet being attached...

Q45 - Has anyone tried Sram Eagle GX 10-50?

What is the size of your front crank? And what do you consider a hill. :)

Q45 - Has anyone tried Sram Eagle GX 10-50?

Um, no. You don't need to worry about the rotational mass of cranksets. They don't spin nearly as fast as the wheels do, and neither cranksets or cassettes have the radius or mass to compare to that of a wheel.

Paging Tribal Elders and Component Wonks- Caution Long

So I've never ridden a Vendetta, but I have ridden up lots of long steep hills on my Cruzbikes at 3 mph. That's harder to do with a double (unless you go with a monster cassette in the back and don't mind large gaps). It was possible to mount a triple on Vendettas and Silvios a few years back...

Q45 - Has anyone tried Sram Eagle GX 10-50?

There are two things that triples get for you: More range and the ability to have much closer differences. I'm a really big fan of the range (and you can get some of that with these monster cassettes). But you really need to make sure you clear these decisions with your knees because these...
