rider with glasses on a low seat angle recumbent

Sport glasses I had made a pair of sport (shatter resistant) glasses that are single-focus with the prescription for long distance. I typically carry my regular multi-focal glasses on a waist pack (along with wallet, keys, etc.)

Is the Silvio easier to steer than the Sofrider?

I have Sofrider V2 that I have started riding again. I find that it takes a lot of upper body effort to control pedal steer, which makes riding it not so much fun. Some time it feels I am wrestling the bike. It does get easier once I am going a bit faster and if I am careful to spin rather...

    Standard rack on Sofrider

Another version When I tried to follow leakyduck's approach I had poor luck bending aluminum at sharp angles, so I did it a bit differently. The rack is a Blackburn MTN-1. It plays nicely with the fender. ocd

    First Ride

Rack and fenders Installed a rack and a rear fender. Discovered that there are no eyelets for fender installation on the front wheel. I need to go to the hardware store to get P-clamps to secure the fender stays. ocd

    First Ride

Second ride I was finally able to get to the empty parking lot again this afternoon. (Sandy, work, etc., got in the way.) This time it was much easier. It might have helped that yesterday I rode (no on a Cruzbike) behind a guy with a Silvio for a couple of miles. Seeing how naturally he...

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Charles, OCD does stand for "obsessive compulsive disorder". It is, likely an exaggeration of, one of my character traits. Luckily, it pays the mortgage. Thanks for the pointer to Kim's videos. ocd

    First Ride

Today I took the first ride on my new (to me) Sofrider V2 (silver). (I bought it from Hank on this forum.) The bicycle arrived on Tuesday and I had it assembled on Wednesday. I had to wait until today (Saturday) so I could use my office's mostly empty parking lot; I tried for about two...

Too much room when installing freewheel in rear dropouts

I'll look for the locknuts.  I'll look for the locknuts. (The package had only two and the picture in the assembly instructions shows only two, though.) Thanks!

Too much room when installing freewheel in rear dropouts

This is what I have. John, I have everything that shows in Part Groups B (front to rear axle) in page 2 of the assembly instructions. The picture shows one half of the axle, the other half is symmetric. Thanks, ocd

Too much room when installing freewheel in rear dropouts

I asked this question in a different thread but it probably got buried. I have a question on step #23 of the assembly instructions: after cleaning and re-greasing the bearings I installed the long axle. Everything looks OK, but when I go to install the freewheel into the rear dropouts I...

Question on Downtube VIII fs as donor bike

Turn the fork? Item #27 (page 6) in the instruction booklet says "Turn the forks so they are pointing backwards." As you can see on the picture of the first message of this thread, my donor's fork is completely symmetric: i.e., turning it backwards makes no difference. I am assuming I can...

Question on Downtube VIII fs as donor bike

Axle too narrow? After a month, or so, hiatus I am back at the conversion. The delay was the result of a combination of the weather being too nice not to ride and work going a bit nuts. This morning I finished step #21 in page 5 of the instructions, ending in "...fit them into the new...

Question on Downtube VIII fs as donor bike

Bottom Bracket Today I took apart the bottom bracket. The tools to disassemble it were a bit more expensive that I was expecting, though. The drive side did not give up without a fight (luckily, the video I pointed out in my previous posting on this thread warned that it is reverse threaded)...

Question on Downtube VIII fs as donor bike

Useful youtube channel The conversion kit arrived today. I have done the easy stuff: take wheels and pedals off, open chain, etc. I also took the cranks off which for me is medium hard. I am off tomorrow to get the tools to take apart the bottom bracket (certified tool junkie here)...

Question on Downtube VIII fs as donor bike

Sensible approach Charles, What you suggest makes a lot of sense. I plan to follow your suggestion. Jerrye, From the pictures it seems that Defjack converted a non-suspended Downtube. Thanks, ocd
