Similar story: Spinal Fusion at L4-5 2 years ago. I tried to commute on an upright post-recovery but it just aggravated the pain. It's now been 3(?) months since I bought my 559, and I'm riding to work most days. It's brilliant. : )

Hi Phil, have a look at the images in my post here. The guy at the store I bought the bike from cut, drilled, painted and attached a piece of steel that's done a good job of holding a normal rear rack in place.
