100 mile weekend

It was a wonderful weekend for cycling here in SoCal. Very mild temps and not much wind makes for a nice time on a bike.

On Saturday, we did our normal club ride. Nobody had any great ideas for riding, so I lead a group of five on one of my favorite loups. I had just over 52 miles for the day and the highlight, for me, was one of the riders strongly suggesting I let somebody else pull for awhile! I obliged and the guy tried to keep the pace I was running, but blew up after a few miles.

Today (Sunday), we did the Santa Ana River Trail down to the beach. It was a gorgeous day and lots of people were out and about for the ride. That ride comes in at just under 50 miles, so I got a grand total of 100 miles in for the week.

Next Saturday, I am leading a century ride. This will mark the first century ride I've done in a few years, so I'm excited about that. I'm thinking about adjusting my commuting rides so I can be well rested for the century, but maybe not. It seems my base miles are pretty good, so maybe I'll be OK. I guess I'll play it by ear and see how I feel mid week.

Anybody else get some miles in this weekend?

yeah, after putting together big 9th birthday party for my daughter, I took about a 22 mile ride Sunday. Great way to unwind and decompress. It was a really warm and sunny weekend here in MA. Upper 70's which is really nice for late Sept.

BTW, I am still getting some great comments on the Silvio... I passed one house and a after passing I heard a women yell to her friend, "Hey that is the coolest bike I've ever seen!" And last week, a car with a girl about 12 in it passed me and the girl was smiling and gave me a thumbs up. It was really great to see her reaction!

Yeah, I hear you, Harold. Saturday, we stopped for the potty and water at the bagel shop where the Riverside club starts and ends their rides. I stayed on my bike while the tiny tanks brigade went in to take care of business. A group of riders was sitting at an outside table having a bagel and coffee and took notice of my bike. It was a forty question moment, but that's fine, they thought it was pretty cool. I got the same comment I get a lot from roadies, "That's the first recumbent I've seen that makes sense!"
