11 speed drive train

I'm considering mods to the drive train of my IGH Quest. Going to a 1x11 format.

I've been looking at 11spd parts. An article commented 11 spd setups are more finicky. Maybe not to be used as daily driver. Chain wear is greater.

Does anyone have any experience with 11 spd setups?

XX1 on my Mtb and it's totally awesome and smooth. The all steel cassette is bulletproof and the largest cog is alloy but easily replaced. I hopped on my Mtb a few weeks ago to do a roadie group ride, chose the Mtb as a handicap. Last time I rode the Mtb was in a 12hr race and it's just sat there collecting dust. I didn't even Chilean the chain, just added some lune and wiped it down and I was amazed at how quite and smooth the drivetrain was.

Most people who say 1x11 is flawed are ether just old school haters or completely ignorant of how to tune a bike.

I'm talking about purpose built 1x11 setups. If your modding and 2x11 into a 1x11 then they are only as good as the numerous variables you choose to introduce into the system.

I like the xx1 on my Silvio. I hate double chainwheels. I have a Raceface wide-narrow 42t chainwheel. I made myself a bar-end friction shifter. The chain seems okay going so far sideways.

The chainwheel barely clears the frame. I put a washer on the B bracket axle to move the right crank a bit more to the right.

I put a 1x11 Rival 1 drivetrain on my Quest. Using a Rival 1 long-cage derailleur, pc-1130 chain, and Rival brifters. The cassette is a Sunrace 11-42 11-speed. No problems whatsoever. Very quiet and easy shifting. I've used this with both 26in and 650b wheels.

I should have mentioned I used this setup for commuting over the past 4-6 months, and for 30-90 mile day trips. Gear range is sufficient for both uses in our mild hill country in WI.
