Good read, Larry, and good riding. There's something special about crushing a peleton on a bike with a safety flag.

My Savannah Century was actually the 25 mile route which after the group missed a turn or two, turned out to be more like 32 (happens a lot ) The 25 miles rolls thru some of the prettiest parts of Savannah . My ride was a steady pace stayed in the middle of the group for most of the ride . The ride (with Police escort thru the Historic District) goes south thru the Historic District and out to Isle of Hope. The return route takes thru Bonaventure Cemetery (made famous in the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil ) , and then back thru the Historic District. Total for the 32 mile was just under 2 hours. They were two other recumbent riders in my ride one bachetta and one rans . The weather cooled off quite a bit this morning air was fresh after the tropical storm blew thru . It was a good day for a bike ride

Now I'm sorry I didn't ride on Sunday, but I'm sure I couldn't have held on to Larry's draft! I did ride the Saturday ride. It was great fun meeting Larry and Skip, plus watching Larry coast in to the finish, what, 15 minutes ahead of the hammerheads? I helped a little with registration for the event (I was ride director for about 5 years), then waited around to see the Vendetta come in. Skip told me there was one there. Don't know why I didn't expect to see him breezing in so early. It was a little funny to see the "lead group" come dragging in to the finish line, and avoid looking at Larry. I think one guy gave him a fist bump out of the entire group. I'm sure it's tough to swallow getting spanked by a funny bike with a safety flag. Maybe next year we can get a cruzbike paceline!

I thoroughly enjoyed your report and Strava link, Larry. One question, though. Did you really ride the las 20 miles under the sea? :p

Good to meet you too Paul and spend some time chatting about Cruzbikes - One of my favorite topics! :p
We come to Savannah several times a year since my wife's family lives in Rincon (about 30 miles away) - Hopefully we can ride ride together next time I am there. Take care!

Thanks Mathew - yeah 20 miles under the sea! haha. I have spent the last 20 minutes re-reading my ride report to see where I must have made a stupid typo about "riding under the sea". Couldn't find one like that. Then I figured out what you meant - as I saw the "elevation" on the Strava data. yeah - I guess Savannah is low, I guess I just did not know how low! haha. Who knows - but my guess is that Garmin uses some sort of "pressure" monitor to sense what elevation is at the time. It obviously was not working all that well!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::p

Larry you need to turn the Garmin Edge on for 10 minutes before you start a ride, when the Garmin is not under a roof, and has clear sight of the satellites, as it takes this time for the elevation to stabilize using pressure and the elevations from multiple satellites, the more the better. The elevation correction is MUCH faster when the bike is stationary. you can also set a home position with its known elevation to speed things up when riding from home.

Thanks for the report and videos Larry. I thoroughly enjoy these.

Concerning your fueling, do you create a special Infinit formula that is extra low carb, or do you use one of the standard infinit formulas?
If this is a heavily guarded secret, I understand! :)

Thanks Again Larry,
Steve

Steve. I truly have no secrets from this tribe - and share everything I do and try - successes and failures.
Yes I do have my own Infinit formula, but it is not low carb. I have not checked it in a while or have changed it because of the Low Carb diet. I think I have extra flavor and try and pack as many calories in it as I can - from the regular formula.
How many carbs I take in during a ride or race is just dependent on how hard I go. If I am riding at a pace where my pulse is 135 bpm or lower (which is about 160-170 watts right now) I can pretty much just do water an last 150 miles or so without really loosing much power. But if I want to ride at 200+ watts for 4 hours hard, then I'm going to ingest as many carbs as my body can process, which is about 300 calories. If I don't do that I will burn out after 2 hours.
..
Larry's secret formula is chocolate milk . really
Chocolate milk - Yes - Many people think I am nuts, but if I am going really hard I usually have a bottle lactose-free chocolate milk for the last hour. It just seems to hit the spot!

Your sharing is truly appreciated Larry. I learn so much from everyone on Cruzbike forum in general, and from you and Ratz in particular.
