24 hours in the Canyon, Texas event- May 30, 2025

Hello fellow Cruzbike Tribe Member,
I am highly contemplating riding my Cruzbike Vendetta in the 24 Hours in the Canyon event this May 30 in Palo Duro Canyon State Park, Texas.

I am looking for at least 1 person to support me in this event that is hopefully close enough so it is not a huge burden to travel there. I will rent something locally that we can meet at and stay in the night before the event. The event starts at 12 noon, so there will be plenty of time to get up and get to the Park on time.

The Event:
The race is first run on a 100 mile loop (up and out of the canyon and back in) and after that continues on a 5 mile loop in the Canyon until the 24 hours is up. Your main responsibility would be to hand me a fuel bottle about once an hour and cheer me on each lap. If I get a flat or have any other issue, I may have to call you to bring me a replacement wheel or whatever else I need.
Here is the Website if you want to check out the entire event and all the details: https://24hoursinthecanyon.org/

Please email me at larryoslund@gmail.com or call me at 828-216-7860 if you have any interest and we can talk further.

Thanks so much,
Larry Oslund

Note: I am also thinking of driving from Hilton Head to the event and back. If you happen to be near me or on my main route I could pick you up and drop you off at the end. Here is my tentative route.

i would ride this myself but that ride out of the canyon is like a 8% grade, I'm just 1x11 in a S40. Will that be light work for you? Also, what resource are you using to find out about these events?

8% is not light work for anyone. But on a Cruzbike it truely depends on have the right gearing, power, and balance to keep the Cruzbike at a speed you can balance and keep it moving. I think I climbed 18-20% grades for a short time in Sweden, and Tor even tackled a 23% grade - and we were both on Vendetta - It will be easier and doable on an S40. I suggest trying to find some local 8% grades and try them out. I am able to climb 6% grades pretty easily on an S40 on about 2 W/KG - so I image 8% will require about 2.5 W/KG.
For ultra cycling events go to www.ultracycling.com and look at their event calendar.
