Bike transport

For airplane travel has anybody just bubble wrap and then shrink wrap the whole bike with minimal dismantling .Bike cases and boxes are very cumbersome .

That's essentially what I have done with my recumbent trike, but you have to check with the airline to see if they will allow the bike sans box.
