Bought a new Gen 2 V20c

Now eagerly awaiting its arrival.

I used to have a Bacchetta CA2. I replaced that with a 2021 S40, which I still have. I've put 2,500 miles on it.

Looking forward to riding the V20c and seeing what it does for my segment times.

I decided to buy a complete bike vs. frameset so I can start riding it immediately. (My S40 is still 100% stock.) I can then upgrade or swap parts out as needed. My main concern is the gearing since just about every ride in my area is at least 1,000 vertical feet.

Looking forward to hearing about your rides, and what the V20 does as far as your segment times go. As for the gearing, if your S40 gearing is ok for that amount of climbing then it should be okay for your V20c as well. Nothing wrong with playing it safe and getting a cassette that has 1 bigger climbing gear.

My brother and I began assembling the bike last night. We’ll finish today. I’m very impressed by the glossy paint job compared to the matte finish on my S40. I’m also pleasantly surprised by how much lighter the V20c is! When complete, I’ll take a photo of the two bikes side by side (both are orange).

My brother and I finished assembling the V20c on Wednesday evening. Timing didn’t work out for me to ride yesterday, so I went first thing this morning. More on that in a second.

1. Everything on this V20c is stock and brand new.

2. The shifting isn’t dialed in yet. When shifting to a smaller cog, I have to drop two then come back up one. I’ll need to see if I can fix that myself or take it to the bike shop.

3. The rear brake disc is warped and is striking the pad. (It was like this before I ever rode the bike.) I tried loosening the pads, but then the braking was too soft.

All that aside, this bike is extremely fast. I averaged 20.2 mph on my first ride. Granted, not much climbing. But…

What’s crazy is I only tried to PR on one segment, Jordan northbound to Caley. I ended up tying my best time ever—without a tailwind. I did not expect to get all the other PRs and Top 100s that I got on this ride.

That’s 6 PRs on trails I’ve ridden dozens of times.

I've had a complex relationship with disc rotors, having replaced them twice on my V20C. Eventually, I opted to straighten the rotors and adjust them as best as possible. Despite these efforts, I still experience minimal braking on the front wheel, while the rear wheel offers decent stopping power. I don't believe this issue is specific to the V20C but rather a general limitation of disc brakes. Good job on your bike.

Thanks, Kurt. Yeah, I had issues with my disc rotor rubbing on my S40 as well. Local bike shop was able to straighten it enough that I no longer hear it. I hope I can get the same result here. I just don't want to hear it or notice it when I'm riding.

100% agree, a rubbing disc rotor is never acceptable.

Probably too soon, but any idea why it’s so much faster?
