Buying a Silvio 1.0

Hi there,

I've spotted a Silvio 1.0 for sale and have come to the forum gods to seek counsel.
It's for sale across country so I'd be buying based on pics and chatting with the owner.
It seems in good nick, from what I can gather.
Is there anything to keep in mind when considering that model?
I did use to own a Quest 1.0, if it helps to compare between the two.
Any notes or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Looks nice but claiming only low klm is......hard to believe. Mastering it in five minutes even harder to believe. But hey bike looks great in pics. But reach out to super slim he is the Australian Silvio version 1 master.

I have sent super slim a message.

It does look good, and with a few thoughtful add-ons.
The thing that bothered me most about my Quest 1.0 was that the head was always loosening.
I asked the seller about it and they said that they haven't noticed anything like that with the Silvio 1.0

I have a 1.0 that I purchased slightly used about 3 years ago.
It's a pretty good little bike. I just had it out yesterday for a 40 miler and did a 55 mile ride on it a last week.
I have it set up with fenders so I call it my foul weather and social bike.
It is not as comfortable or fast as my Vendetta but the more upright seat gives a better advantage riding around town and is good for more social group rides as you are closer to the head height of a regular bike. Also, not being as fast as the V I tend to ride with the group a bit more.
The suspension is gimmicky in my opinion but it does seem to take a slight edge off rough surfaces.
I have noticed some wheel slippage due to the front suspension. Hit a bump and the wheel rebounds so fast it gets slightly air born.
I found that adding the 100mm chainnstay extension made the bike a lot more comfortable.
Without the extension the bars were too high.
I also added a Ventist seat pad.
Another good feature is it will accept a rack.
I have a trunk bag on the rack and can add panniers if I wish.

What is your asking price for the historic V1.0, as there could be an ancient NSW rider in Australia, that could be interested as his local Hunter Valley NSW roads are worst than the Texas RAAM Challenge!

The 45 degree seat back will give very good visibility of the potholes, and an added rear air bag suspension will take out the thumps in the back!!

I took my Silvio 1.0 out for an overnight, non supported camping trip to Willamette Mission state park which is 20 miles north of Salem, OR.
I have never done an overnighter on any of my Cruzbikes so this is a first.
I had a rear rack that I modified some to fit as close as possible to the seat back.
I mounted a pair of Angletech aero panniers that I had lying around and never used before.
I carried sleeping bag, 2 person MSR tent, a Thermarest pad and chair accessory, short and long sleeve tshirts, light jacket and camp shoes, a few tools and a tube in addition to the jersey, nylon shorts and SPD bike shoes I wore on the bike.
The Silvio performed very well. It was still pretty fast due to not having much aero drag, especially compared to the upright bikers with their big rectangular bags hanging in the breeze.
I rode with the group up to the park but returned solo. My speed was greater and I wanted to get home before the heat came on (we had a week of unusually hot spring days here in the Willamette Valley).
Total trip mileage was 126.
Please excuse my hijacking this thread. I just wanted to show what the old Silvios are capable of.

That looks very aero with the curved front of the pannier bags!! What make?
Having the sleeping bag and tent on top of the rack, with the top level with your shoulders, makes a very good aero tail!
Any photos of the the rack?
