Can't replace a broken derailleur cable

The weather up here finally got decent, so I got back on the road on my Freestyle on Wednesday, but 2 minutes in my ride, my front derailleur broke, keeping me on my 22 tooth chain ring.

As you can imagine, I run out of gears quite quickly, but I will need to wait out the crisis to end before bike shops will be allowed to reopen, Quebec has ordered a shutdown of all businesses deemed non-essential.

At least, I can get out and get some fresh air.

Bonjour Denis,

If you can ride without the 22 gear them you could adjust the front derailleur lower set screw ( the one that is touching a tab on the derailleur right now ). Turn it ( probably clockwise) until the derailleur is running the next chainring. It will help if you have an extra set of hands to take the tension off the derailleur while you turn the screw to make it easier snd to prevent stripping the screw head.

If you want send a picture and someone can advise which of the two screws if you are unsure.

Rivendell bikes in California is apparently deemed essential and therefore allowed to stay open!

You can't get spares posted to you which you buy online? Amazon is still running and you can get spare gear cables on there, certainly here in the UK.

If you are LUCKY enough to live in the big land Down Under, all bike shops are open, but with 4 m2 per customer (1.5 m spacing).
Courier and postal deliveries are still operating, but with no signatures, and parcels left at the front door!

I just ordered new shift and brake cables from Jenson USA on Thursday. Shipped next day. Should have the Q45 ready to ride before Wisconsin weather will allow it anyway.

Yesterday, I was riding and went by the local Canadian Tire, and to my surprise, it was open!
I thought that only essential service businesses were open, seems like car repair places were deemed essential.

Went in to the bicycles area, found a replacement cable. I went to install it, but could not find my #*&! cutters to cut off the end part so that I could slide the cable down the tube, so I got in my car, went back to the store (wearing Nitrile Gloves and mask), got some cutters, got back home, cut the piece off, then lubed the cable and ran it through the housing. It went in easily.

Ahh! Nice to be able to ride in higher gears!.

I was a little worried going into a public place, but took my precautions, (including washing my hands thoroughly, then applying hand sanitizer going in and after I got home each time and wiping down the surfaces I touched after I got out of the store (bike and car surfaces).

That won't be this year, as my hip replacement surgery, scheduled for approx September, has been postponed indefinitely due to the virus.

In the meantime, I'm trying to stay in shape as best as I can, but the hip pain make it difficult on some days, but not all.
