deraileur mounting question please

The original mounting of the deraileur had a small screw and washer right next to the primary mounting bolt which of course is the wheel axle also. The conversion kit has no hole in which to mount this secondary screw in the deraileur as in the original mount.
My question is;
Should I try to drill and tap a threaded hole into the conversion fork to recieive another screw ? Or is it ok to leave it as is with the proper torque on the axle bolt. I wonder if the bolt will not allow any deraileur slippage with the proper torque?

Hi Bob,

You need the screw and plate show with this derailleur hanger:

This will allow you to move the axle in the axle slot as needed and won't require you to drill and tap the triangle bracket.

I disagree. That rear derailleur and the claw look to be integrated. You should not need a claw with the kit. You need to ditch that derailleur and go buy a regular rear derailleur at the bike shop that will bolt right up to the kit.

Notice in the second picture, the axle is not buried into the back of the dropout slot. It is the bolt through the claw that sits there. And on the other side of that bolt is a very flat nut. Where is it you ask? Ah, that is the question!

AH-HA!!!!!!!!! John, Is this what you're talking about?
The nut in this photo appears to be what Doug was calling a plate that I needed. I might just put a star lock-washer on the bolt head side of this baby just for keepers, right?

No, Gromit;
I had to go dig it out of my scrap nuts and bolts collection in my shop (its rather large too). I still don't know why I put there in the first place.
