Folding Bike Conversion

Hi all,

I'm interested in getting the Cruzbike Conversion Kit at some point so obviously I need a donor, and I'm starting to look at a Folding Bike as an option. I believe it has been done but I was wondering if there are any particular folding frame-types that would suit conversion and if there are any to avoid? I live in the UK.

Thanks in advance,

Ian

For example, would one of these be convertale: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Giant-Halfway-7-Folding-Bike-2009_W0QQitemZ250513714317QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Bikes_GL?hash=item3a53c7ec8d&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Can you get Downtubes? The Downtube full suspension works pretty good. The Giant Halfway has a 1/2fork in front so would not work with the kit bike as you need a full fork. Jack

Thanks,

Ian.

Thanks,

Have you searched through the other folding bikes on ebay.co.uk?
There are over 700 folding bikes listed.
There may be one on there similar to a Downtube or something else suitable. :)

Ok I think I have found a suitable donor now. Can anyone recommend a good crank-set ratio for a dual-20" converted folder?!

Ian,
go a short length crank, say 155 or 160 on a big ring like 53 and a freewheel that is 11 to something. Check on Sheldon's gain ratio page and see if you can get the gain ratio up to 7.5.

I used a standard road double 165, 52 ,39 and it worked just fine on my Downtube conversion. Jack
