Because I used to live by this when I commuted in London on a dirty upright tourer. In essence you gain points for passing people equally quick or faster than you, but lose them when someone equal or lower drops you instead.

it's not a race

And your FCN, or Food Chain Number

Clearly a V is meant to be faster than a Silvio, in turn faster than a Q and so on. But how do we determine our analogue in the pantheon?

First question, do we make any kind of allowance for a Cruzbike just being generically faster? I say no.

Therefore I reckon my FCN for a reclined, but hub-gear and hub-dynamo V2k is...
  • Fast hybrid (7) [MTB on skinnies??]
  • Baggies (+1)
  • Panniers (+1)
  • No helmet (0)
  • Flat Pedals (+2)
11

What's yours?

Been there, done that on a dirty upright tourer, then on a dirty Grasshopper. Now - am there, do that on a dirty hacked Silvio, and still I am a slave to The Game. Never done a proper race, never done any pace-line training, have not a clue about this Strava thing, but when I get passed it ruins my day. Unfortunately I have a lot of ruined days.

I also play the freestyle Game. This is where you try to zigzag through the pedestrian barriers in the underpass. Getting better at that.

My number is 9. I assumed my Silvio is a tourer. It has mudguards. If I had a Vendetta I would be a hairy-legged roadie. I assumed my heel-clips made from toe-clips are toe-clips.

I lost out to a Tarty Shiny Fixy the other day. He pulled out of a side road onto the bike path next to the road I was using. It was into the wind, I thought I'd do him up to the lights. Turns out he's lighter than me and fitter than me by about 2 mph. Despite there being no apparent disgrace, I still heard the kudos-remover being warmed up as my soul filled in the paperwork.
