Front Derailleur Stalk Fail

The tab that the derailleur attaches to completely broke off of the stalk on my V20c leaving the derailleur hanging from the chain 25 miles from home. No quick link tool but I did have a spare quick link so we ended up breaking the chain at a non-quick link to get the derailleur off. No problem getting home on the newly 1X drive train though I did take the less hilly option whenever there was a choice. Fortunately it's SRAM wireless so there was no cable to deal with.

I had been having problems keeping the front derailleur adjusted properly. I think the tab may have become slightly bent relative to the stalk when I packed the bike for a trip to Italy. I had to keep adjusting the angle of the derailleur because the crank would hit the outside of the cage on every pedal stroke. I thought the problem was that the derailleur was slipping at the point of attachment but it must have actually been that the tab was getting bent back and forth slightly until today it just broke off. I ordered a new one. I think I will just take the stalk off and strap it to the boom next time I pack it for a trip.

I have found that I was not tightening up the stalk well enough at the base and it worked its way loose after awhile. Obviously this is a failed part. Just email support@cruzbike.com and I am sure they will email you a replacement.

Sorry to hear about your troubles, I went 1x on my v20c last summer for a few months, just removed the front derailleur and installed a 46t chainring. I was perfectly happy with it. Of course, I ride where it is dead flat. So no issues climbing. I am sure Cruzbike can replace it for you. It could be a fatigue failure, bending and bending over again, or maybe a preexisting flaw in the metal and it finally gave way. Good luck!!
