Front mudguard/fender for Q 559

I've been thinking about getting mudguards (fenders) for my new Q V3 559.

Has anyone tried the Topeak DeFender RC1 front mudguard? Sadly, so far, I've only found it as part of a set with the RC11 rear mudguard which wouldn't work on a Q 559 IMHO.
I guess that I'll just have to buy the set and give the RC11 to a friend with a diamond frame bike?

My rear mudguard will most likely be the Topeak DeFender M2. There was an earlier post on the forum about that one.

why not use regular (full) fenders?

Why not use regular (full) fenders?

A fender extending forward of the steering column helps keep your drive train clean. A normal fender fits very well on the rear wheel. What's the problem?

But ... on the Quest 2 at least, there isn't much clearance under the steering tube in the front. I thought this was improved on the Q3. For the Q2 I had to cut away a hole in the top of the fender to get it to fit.

See photos in my post at "?Somebody needs to start this thread: My Quest mods" (2012-11-25). Not focused on the fenders but shows them.

Aesthetics/weight

Hi BK

I want to be able to remove the mudguards (fenders) quickly either for folding or just for aesthetic reasons/weight. I've removed the folding carrier on my Q3 for example.
Yes, the Q3 has plenty of clearance under the steering tube at the front.

SKS Beavertail

I used the front mudguard from an SKS Beavertail set. I already had the set in hand.

I did remove some of the surplus metal from the bracket however.

I went with the Topeak DeFender M2 at the rear.

Curious about results with the Beavertail there. Do your feet and lower legs still get sprayed from being on the pedals in front ahead of the fender?

I haven't really tested the mudguards much. I will post more info here at a later date.
