Helmets for Recumbents

Always a problem fitting a helmet that clears the neckrest on recumbents with deep reclines. I know the Giro Air Attack has been recommended but spending almost $300 for a helmet is out of my budget.
So I did a little research and found a couple of helmets that do the job and don't cost a fortune.
Some models of Lazer helmets work, just look for a model that has the adjustment on top of the helmet and not in the back. There are models available for under $80.
Another, and my favorite is the LEM Volata. At only $65 for a nice fitting helmet that looks good and is an Aero design I think it is a good value.
Hope someone finds this helpful.

Well my 10cents... giro air attack is good for cold climates but expensive. Or do what I did recently and buy cheap chinese one... the whole helmet and 3 lenses is cheaper than one air attack visor

I'm at the cheaper end of the market... The only "aero" helmet I've used is this one from Bend-It Cycling.

It is comfortable, well ventilated, light weight, visor which fits huge glasses underneath... It probably is not as aero and is less stylish depending on your preferences but experiences in below freezing temperatures lately show how much better aero the visor is than any helmet I have had without a visor and also how well the venting works especially on the forehead. I have had to tape up the front vents even with a light balaclava underneath at -12C.

I should probably clarify that this recent winter weather (salt season) riding is done on my mountain bike with studded tires so in an upright position for winter when I need the slippery surface handling of a mountain bike for the possibility of ice/snow. Most of my riding with this helmet has been on the Cruzbike in warmer weather where it works very well.

Hi David.
Does your helmet have a sticker saying that it passed some crash test or certification? The only reason I ask. I'm considering racing in a league. One of the rules for helmets states "All riders must wear an un-modified helmet that has a sticker showing compliance with one of the nationally recognized (any nation) testing organizations."

If not, does anyone have a sticker I can use?

Mine has an AS/NZS 2063 Australian Standard certified Product sticker, with a Serial number.
The sticker would be destroyed if trying to remove it!

Thanks David for the pic.

I think that will work. EN 1078 is a European standard of testing. I would think this will fit their safety rules.

I think the helmet is good... it doesnt fit quite well on the head as the giro air and the clasp is a bit clunky. I think its sure value for money and if you put draft excluder tape on the bottom edge of the visor; in my mind it's better than the giro air with visor. Lighter for sure and I dont overheat. Last time I went out on the V I was 30 seconds faster on a strava segment... so it pays for itself
