High Praise for High Speed

High Speed may have delivered the Team Time Trial performance of the year, showcasing a masterclass in power and teamwork. With precision and dominance, they handily beat Low Drag, bringing the series tally to 4-2 in favor of Low Drag—but High Speed is catching up fast.

This triumph wasn’t without some serious firepower. High Speed not only had Tampa’s wattage wonder, Otto Walters, but they also bolstered their roster by recruiting the legendary Cliff Federspiel, affectionately known as "Captain Falcon." (See what he did there? CF.) Walters and Federspiel alternated as front-runners, pulling the group at blistering speeds before rotating to the back for shore-up duty—a task that was almost unnecessary given the stellar efforts of John and Laura Crawford, Rick Mueller, and Connie Swinson, who were killing it in their own right.

Low Drag knew they needed a perfect race to stand a chance. Led by Captain Josh Bonc, our lineup included veteran Jim McGowen, Bryan Hawkman (of Vendetta fame), Adam Woods, rookie Bobby Schiffman, and, well, me. But perfection was not in the cards.
We stumbled right out of the gate—literally. One of our riders was still watching Oprah reruns when the race began. The Discord chatter said it all:
Captain Josh: "OK, I see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 out the gate. Where's 6? Who’s missing? Oh, crud!"
Missing Rider: "Oh shoot! they left, Here I am, I’m coming!"
To his credit, he made an incredible recovery, but it didn’t matter. This was High Speed’s night, and they were unstoppable.
The tipping point came on the climb up Jarvis Island. Our grand plan to “Serengeti” them (aka a series of illegal blocking tactics) briefly slowed one of their riders. For a moment, there was hope—he lagged three seconds behind as we regrouped and prepared to pounce on the lone rider’s wheel. According to the rules, every High-Speed racer needed to finish ahead of us for the win. If we could just clip this one rider at the line, victory was ours.
But High Speed was ready. Like a well-oiled machine, they dropped back, linked up, and launched. Their rider fired up the afterburners, and in an instant, they were gone. Low Drag was done, shattered, and scattered across Jarvis, where you could hear a mutter, “Next time.”

Think you’ve got what it takes? High Speed is always looking for strong, good-looking riders to bolster their ranks. Meanwhile, Low Drag will take anyone brave enough to join our motley crew. No experience is needed—We race every Thursday, come dive into the chaos.

"One of our riders was still watching Oprah reruns when the race began." I was hoping for a new car notice under my seat!!! I was only 2:30 behind when I finally got back into Zwift. Sadly, no car notice was found and my tardiness just may have given High Speed the extra boost they needed to defeat us. After all, the numbers don't lie... :emoji_race_car:
