Hi

Yesterday evening i hit a car that turned right and crossed the bikelane without looking enough. I did hit my brakes, but i suppose i still hit the car with 30-35 kmh since i was doing 46,4 shortly before (going downhill). I hit the car at a 25? degree angle, with my click pedals on and clicked in.

The bike hit the car at the base of the left pedal arm right where it is attached to the buttom bracket. Nothing appears to be bent or broken except for the chainguard on the other side?

When or shortly before i hit the car, the rear wheel liftet up from the ground and it swung out to the right. Somehow i got unclicked and put my feet down. I didnt fall over and didnt appear to hit anything on myself. No road rash, no nothing. I think the car driver was more shocked than i was.

I am glad that it was my cruzbike and not my upright bike, i think i would have fallen if i did the same on my upright.

Even though nothing appear to be bent, how to i check it?

Wow! Glad you're OK.... Funny, or not so funny, but I had the same exact thing almost happen on my ride to work this morning. In my instance, I had just rounded a corner and was just building momentum back up. I knew the car was there and still in my lane, so I kind of expected him to do something stupid like that. I tapped my brakes and all was well. So the doofus thought he would save what, maybe 10 seconds over waiting for you?

I'm not sure how insurance works In Denmark, but if it were me and the guy did that, I'd take him to task for it. I'd make him replace the bent and scuffed pieces and put it back like it was with his nickle.

i have to show a damage to get insurance. i think he didnt see me. The road turns slightly just before, so i guess i was in the blind angle.

I'm just glad you weren't hurt.

Thanks Mark. I am very glad too, but i think the design of the cruzbike contributated to the fact that i was not hurt.

It makes the hair stand on end down my back Jon, when I hear of a rider taking a get out of jail card free like you did, but this is not the first time a cruzbike head on accident has been surprisingly without serious injury. You did well, and I'm so glad you are safe. :)

Hi Jon,

Very glad you weren't hurt. It sounds like you reacted very skillfully.

Looks like the bike was hit on some pretty strong parts- I'm willing to bet the rest of the front end is okay. I'd turn it upside down and verify the wheel is straight, and then use the wheel as a tool to tell if the fork and front triangle parts are straight, by checking brake clearance, wheel centering in the fork, etc.

Again, very glad you are in good shape!

Best,
