How do you cost efficiently ship a cruzbike?

I sold one of my Cruzbikes (S40). I got a box from my local bike shop. UPS want's an arm and a leg to ship it to South Carolina from Virginia. Nearly $550. Others find the box too big to ship (64 x 36 x 11). I've shipped heavy machines and equipment with less difficulty....and less expense. How do you reasonably ship? Shouldn't the cost be closer to about $200 today (Feb 2025)?

I used pirateship when I bought mine a year ago. They were less than half of UPS and about 100 cheaper than bike flights. Since then, I use them for all my shipping. Ps uses UPS and other carriers you can select.

BikeFlights is about the cheapest these days. But the package size also makes a big differerence. You can play with the sizes in their interface and see when the price suddenly jumps up. I have found the optimal bike box sizes of 52x12x27, 53x11x27, 52x27x12, 52x28x11, and 50x29x11 work pretty well and see to be under $200 - if you go above these sizes then it usually doubles. Good Luck

I used Bike Flights to ship a Quest and a Grasshopper. Good service and reasonable (not necessary cheap) rates. I’d use them again.

I used BikeFlights to ship a Quest and accessories from the US to Canada last year. Had to ship the frameset and wheels in separate boxes to reduce the Canadian tariff. I shortened the length of a standard cardboard bike box by about a foot to fit the folded frameset.

Shipping was about $150 total for the two boxes. Tariff was an additional $99.
