Max Tyre width on S40

I have the previous model S40 front fork, just about takes a 28mm x 700C and that's too narrow for comfort on the roads around me. I've been running 650b tubeless tyres on my roadbike and at 45-50psi it's a revelation that I want to proselytise on the S40 as well. The only problem is that the tyres i'm runninng on the roadbike are too large.

So question to the forum, anyone else running 650b on the old fork, and what's the max width capacity?

I have the first iteration of the S40, so I suspect this isn't a match but here goes anyway. I have a 650b x 42 at front (Babyshoe pass) and a 700x35 rear (because I built it, because cost, because Pirelli Cinturato velo TLR max width)

Does 640b x 42 accommodate mudguards? The bike must be tilted down slightly. What effect does this have on the handling?
Downward tilt? Not as much as you'd imagine. The babyshoe pass tyres are pretty tall and a 650x42 isn't terribly different to a 700x35 so there's no discernable tip forward.

Front mudguard. SKS Longboards with 2 metal spiders rather than the normal fork crown mounting point. Front one is held in place by a cable tie.

Rear mudguard and so forth; and moreover, etc

Pre-front adjustment. It's not this clean any more either.
