MTB brakes/shifters on CB w drop bars?

changing a CB front wheel w/o Sram’s cage lock is gigantic nightmare. But I don’t believe Sram makes a RD that has the cage lock feature, 2x capacity and compatibility with their Exact Actuation brifters. To get. Cage lock capable RD you have to go to their MTB offerings, none of which use Exact Actuation. Has anyone tried going full on mtb components but on drop bars?

@paco1961 I believe the discussion has been opened before.. The usual difficulty is difference in handle bar tubing diameter (road is larger than mountain bike). Soma Gator is the bar most often mentioned - the bar diameter changes to accommodate either components. I'll let you search as I am sure you are better at it than I am. Let us know how you make out.

This discussion has been opened before. Look at the websites of the online shops. You see the components categorized as "road" or "mountain". Mountain ones have clamps that do not fit on road bars. Road clamps do not tighten on mountain bars. The clamp on the boom of my Silvio does not tighten on mountain bars.

I need a lie down.

I am guessing you are referring to 11 speed? I have 10 speed Sram GX long cage RD that has cage lock and is paired with road brifters.

11 would be preferred. Infuriating that these companies seem to go out of their way to make things so difficult.

@paco1961 Do you use a 1x, 2x or 3x chainring setup? I ask because it seems that going from 1x10 to 1x11 might be worth it to gain smaller gaps or greater gearing range but once you add the 2x or 3x that would get you the greater range and better spacing, no? And it would probably be cheaper because you could get last year's awesome for less $ than this year's 2nd class. And get the shifter / derailleur combination you want.

Am I missing something? Or maybe my miser is just showing through. I'm not good enough for technology to make differences that are noticeable within the fluctuations of daily life.

By the way, I have 2x10. Sram Rival brifter, 52x34 front and 11/40 cassette with GX long cage RD. It's on a S40.

2x11 on my S40. I have a Rival RD and and run 11-36 rear, 50-34 front. But the Rival RD does not have the Cage Lock feature that makes a gigantic difference in ease of changing the front wheel on a CB. Might just have to go to 2x10 as the 10 speed GX appears to be the only Sram RD with Exact Actuation and Cage Lock. That 11 tooth cog may just have to go away . . .

I can't imagine you could change the front wheel without the cage lock!

yes go back to ten speed. I use sram red brifters with xo rear mech

11 speed sram gx though it’s recent I’m sure it would be great. Lots new bent bikes fitted with it standard. Eg brevet.
