My 1st Ride...Wow! What a Bike!

My new Sofrider arrived yesterday and I put it together in about 1.5 hours. Today, I drove over to a deserted parking lot and after some adjusting of brakes and derailleurs, I took my first ride. It's like I never rode a bicycle before.... I really had to rethink how I steer and pedal..... but in 20 minutes I felt fairly confident of my ability to maneuver around the parking lot. I'm amazed at how comfortable the seat position is. I'm going to do a couple of more training rides and then head out on a nice fire road on a crispy fall morning here in Maine.

Suggestion would be to do more than just a couple more training rides before heading out on the open road, even if it is less traveled. The more stops and start you do the better you will become. Practice starting and stopping while staying on a white ( or dark ) line in the parking lot, you will be glad you did. "experience speaks loudly"

Hi Guys,

Fire roads can be pretty much anything, but the ones I pick are usually hard pack dirt and some gravel. They tend to be fairly smooth with not too much loose gravel. I definitely will doing a lot of stop & go practicing.

Thanks

Aren't most fire roads gravel roads?

Here on the east coast of Florida they are sugar sand. Unfit for even hiking. One of these days I will get above the water line to be able to ride and enjoy myself. This technology lab paperwork is a mess.
