New Fenders!

Well, I used the front on the back and the back on the front and had to change the wires around to hold them up but I'm pretty happy with the fenders.

This back fender (was the front) is held up just by the support wires. It works not bad but on some of the bigger bumps is swings around and hits the tire.

This is the front fender. It works awesome... holds together really well. It's held on by the wires and one garbage bag ties to hold pressure up on the frame. It sits together really well.

This is the little twist tie.

This is where it hangs down free on the front. It doesn't wiggle nearly as much as I thought that it would. I wish that it looked a little better (maybe I'll put on a light or something.

These are the little rubber things that hold on the wires... that shifter cable was right in the way but it works to strap on around it.

So... it's been a good experiement so far and I'm liking it... now all I have to do is find a puddle to see if it actually keeps me dry :D

I don't think so... I'll go check again.
Does it look like its tilted to far forward?

I just changed it (moved it back to the 6'1" and over position so I'll have to go and count the holes tonight... it does look up in the picture.

Hi Sean,

John is referring to the fact that many of the bikes were shipped with the seat mounting bracket reversed. From the pictures it looks like yours is one of the backwards ones.

The black seat mounting bracket needs to be turned around 180 degrees. Then the seat pan incline will be what was intended by the design.

Doing that, and setting the seatback to about 45 degrees incline, will be a comfort revelation.

Love what you're doing with accessories. Keep us posted.

Best,

I've been looking at fenders like that for the Silvio. I'm hoping to keep them easy on/off for winter riding.

THANKS FOR SPOTTING THAT JOHN!

Well... I've proven the instructions to not be fool proof. This fool managaed to put it on backwards as MarkB has said. I could blame the company for putting it on this way... but it arrived loose in the box and I put it on. Thanks for spotting this. I've only sat on the new seat configuration but it does seem to be better.

On the plus side, I won't need to put up the post asking about feeling like I'm slipping down...

In terms of the fenders, they are the planet bike ones, and if you look close at the mountings, it's little rubber straps that easily unhook off the plastic and the whole thing comes off. All the rubber is really new so it seems to be a great idea... we'll see how long the rubber keeps feeling new and working well.

The guy at the bike store said that snow gets up in the fenders really quick and there really isn't a good reason to have them on in the winter so I'm anticipating easy on and off.

I think that the back fender might have a limited life... it's just a little too loose and wobbly without part of it being anchored. I think that I'm going to go with a rear rack at some point and then this should really fix the anticipated problem of water splashing on the back of my heard. On the other hand, the bags hang so nice off the seat that I'll likely have to organize a long ride before I can justify getting a rack.

Mark,
I use planet bike ones that attach this way on my Silvio, work well, although tend to clatter against the brake when dropping off curbs.

I've been eyeballing the PB fenders for some time. I suspect the clattering thing could be remedied with a small strip of an old innertube rubber cemented to the fender where it hits the brake. ;)
