Performance Adjustable Headrest - fitting

I just got a new adjustable headrest. I had to study the pictures in the “accessories” section to see how it is assembled. Then I got stuck. If the horizontal tubes extend past the split joining tube, I couldn’t rotate the vertical tubes at all, because the vertical clamp tube fittings hit the tips of the horizontal tubes. They force the fittings into one position. If you pull the horizontal tubes further in, they leave a gap and only a tiny portion of the horizontal tube is captured.

I’m curious how you folks installed your adjustable headrests. Did you trim the tips off the horizontal tubes like I did? Or leave them partially engaging the split tube with a gap?

Anyway, here’s what I did. I pushed the horizontal tubes through until they were flush. Marked the excess that needed trimming. After the tips were trimmed flush, I can rotate the vertical tubes to any rotational angle while the tips of the horizontal tubes are completely engaged in the split tube. (No gap)

Just wondering how this ultimately worked for you. Am considering trying this on my Vendetta but available information on it is sparse. Were you able to resolve your neck issues with it? Did trimming the horizontal pieces help the adjustability?

I leave mine partially engaged with the gap. It seems to work well, but now you have me thinking about more tinkering...
Now you need to paint or have the exposed metal anodized.
