Saddle/Practice Time on the Q

Even though we are still experiencing some very hot and humid weather, I've been able to get out most mornings; before the heat index gets over 100.

This morning I got some practice time in a parking lot (mostly starting from different situations) and then from there rode a total of only 8 miles on our local bike path.

Have not mounted a computer on the bike yet, so I don't know my average speed (or how fast I was going) but I can report that my riding is less shaky, pedal cadence is smoother and my overall confidence level is improving. If it were not for the extreme heat/humidity I would have ridden several more miles. All total, since getting the Q assembled, I've only been out on it probably 7 times, for 1 to 2 hours each time. I really want to put my clipless pedals on, but I want to rack up just a few more miles before I do that.

Next week, it is to be a little cooler so I hope to get more riding in.

Clipless pedals

Trekster, I wouldn't wait terribly long to install the clipless pedals. As others here have noted, they'll do wonders for your stability and cadence. If you're nervous about release, set them as loose as you can without your shoes falling out. Since you're not able to get in long rides just yet, practicing getting in and out of the pedals would be a big help. Believe me, when the weather cools and you're ready for a ride, you'll be happy you did.

Pedals installed

Yes, I agree. Yesterday I got my clipless pedals installed and am looking forward to using them. I've ridden many thousands of miles on a DF with clipless, as well as on my Catrike; so they are not completely foreign to me. Also got my computer installed yesterday.

Just got back from my early morning ride. First ride using my Bebop clipless pedals, and with my cycle computer installed. Everything worked very well. Without having to physically keep my feet on the pedals, rapid gear changes and overall cadence is much better. Also, I suspected this bike was faster than my trike; but now it has been confirmed.
