Seat Back help

I have a question on the seat back. Were should the top of it hit? After only missing one day of riding in the last five weeks, I find that the top of the seat back is hitting me at the bottom of my shoulder blades. I know I have a long torso, so should I attempt to make a taller seat back? Then again maybe it is just me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Rod,

Try moving the seat back cushion up so it sits slightly higher than the top of the seat back pan. This will relieve any pressure point you might feel there. Works very well on my Silvio.

Rod,

I had the same problem, on my Silvio,: immediate pain / pressure when just sitting on the bike.
I tried what Doug said (reposition the cushion) and it helped but just delayed (and dulled) the pain for maybe 10 - 15 minutes.
Interesting that you noticed it after so much riding though (and only one day off the bike).

I now have the reverse to report, this is more expected result I think.

Chronology of events:
I inserted 1/4 inch of extra cushion below the top of the seat pan (inside the seat cover) that sat me up a little higher and worked for the first 30 miles of a 65 mile ride before it also got kinda too much pressure, not bad but I was experimenting in the first 100 miles on my bike.
So I moved it to my lumbar region and that worked pretty well too, perhaps better.
That stayed that way for about 400 miles of daily commutes (between 12 & 34 miles each day).

Then one day I took it out, I don't remember why, and between 400-550 miles now I have been pain free in that spot with the stock cushioning. I don't even notice it anymore...BUT...the seat cushion top is still pulled up over that topmost seat-pressure-point.

You might try just a little extra cushion here and there?

Gents,

Thanks for the suggestions.
I did notice it earlier, but I was hoping that it was a temporary thing.
I will try experimenting with the seat back cushion and keep you posted.

Would it help if I changed the angle of the seat back?

Thanks,
Rod

John,

I do not know what the angle is, but i will check it.

I did move the seat back cushion up a few inches and it helped when I road yesterday.

However, I went out and purchased a trainer because once I completed my ride yesterday it started to snow.

The bike is in the basement and I will be doing my riding there.

Yes, just note that on the trainer the front of the bike is up and the frame canted back a few degrees, it can be noticable, expecially on lower seat back angles. I sometimes stick a block under teh back wheel to compensate.
