I have been really happy with the Cdale conversion except for the shifting.Had some Shimano Alivo index shifters on and bike was skipping like mad thought it was the freewheel. Than I cut 2 1/4 inches off the cruiser bars and found out it wouldnt index at all with shifters on the bar curve. Put grip shifters on and same thing .Read somewhere that the old XT friction shifters worked well.Picked up a set off ebay with my first bid for 27.50 kind of steep but cheaper than barends .Put them on yesterday and they work super. Hey Jack,

Actually, you got a good deal on those. They're semi-legendary "deer head" Shimano's, I believe, and they're in great condition. I've seen them go for big money on Ebay; they are probably the best above-bar friction shifters ever made.

Your bike is assuming a very interesting personality...

It is an interesting bike and a trip to ride. Looks good, Jack That's basically the same thing I have but you paid a whole lot less. Way to go!
